Los Angeles -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein stood in front of the gospel-charged congregation in South Central Los Angeles on Sunday to be proudly introduced as "the only member of the United States Senate to be a member'' of the First African Methodist church.
And the Democratic senator from California delivered a sermon on values: The Bush Social Security plan, she said, is a threat to the well-being and families of African American seniors.
"It is the wrong thing to do at the wrong time,'' she said as the seniors in the audience nodded their heads in agreement. "Will you help me?''
Just a few miles away, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, about 2,000 Democrats wrapped up their statewide convention this weekend. They, too, had been reminded of values -- as speaker after speaker came to a podium bearing the slogan: "Democrats protect real people.''
"We have to be the party of jobs, not the party of taxes,'' said state Controller Steve Westly, who has started an exploratory campaign for governor.
"We're not the party always saying no. We're the party that gets things done,'' Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez said. "We've got to be fiscally responsible -- but we also have to be open-minded to the needs of California.''
"It's not that Americans don't share our values. It's just that we don't communicate what those values are,'' Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean told about 1,000 Democrats on Saturday night at the convention. "We can't win if all we do is talk about the problems that the Republicans have given this country.''

How much you and your hubby worth these days, DiFi?
The Democratic party reminds me of a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. All just running around and bumping into each other with no idea where they're going.
Serious question, What problems have ever been solved or made at least better by actions from the Democratic party? How far back will we have to go to answer this?
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
They are the party that puts 75% of its abortion clinics in the inner city, such as South Central, thus depleting the population of the very people she is trolling for votes from. The irony.
So when does this 'church' loss its tax status? </sarcasm>
'loss' should be 'lose' (as in I'm a 'loser' at spell-checking.)
Fortunately, more and more working non-black Americans are beginning to vote on the basis of issues and candidates rather than just for handouts.
There is hope.
legions of democrats will be carrying bibles and going to church!
This is really interesting, considering that I heard Feinstein talking about Frist participating in a teleconference next weekend that is being fed to different churches in America. He is supposed to talk about the fact that dems are upset with Bush's judicial nominees that are people "of faith".
She was talking about how that wasn't a good thing to do, you know, the separation of church/state thing!!!
Well,hmmm.................
My Gosh I can't believe it. She was just on with Chrissy Lipsing Matthews griping in her pursed lip way about the DANGER of what Frist was doing speaking the Focus on the Family group by teleconference. Chrissy just sat there on his lard butt and lapped it up. No wonder the MSM is looked at as biased. He knew about this surely but did he bring it up NOOOOOOOOOOOO.
"So when does this 'church' (lose)its tax status? </sarcasm>"
Good question! Where are the ACLU and "Americans For the Separation of Church & State", CBS, Liberal newscasters, ad naseum? Will Hannity and O'Reilly jump on this one?
"Where are the ACLU and "Americans For the Separation of Church & State", CBS, Liberal newscasters, ad naseum? "
You know, I did hear someone from Americans for Separation of Church and State state that they do report the Dems speaking at black churches but they get no where with it.
Absolutely a gross violation of separation of Church and Hate!
So did that church lose it's tax free status after campaigning happened there?
Not a place for white people, I presume?
"...Americans for Separation of Church and State state that they do report the Dems speaking at black churches but they get no where with it."
"They get nowhere with it"? "THEY GET NOWHERE WITH IT"?! You can bet your boots, if it was a Republican doing politics at the Sunday worship.....they would keep screaming
on radio, tv, newspaper, et.al........until they DID get somewhere with it.
Hypocrisy......as usual.
