Police: Man Threatens To Kill Over Cable Bill
Suspect Being Held On $200,000 Bond

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. -- A man was taken into custody by police after he allegedly made threats to employees at a Comcast customer service station in St. Clair Shores.

Daniel Taugher, 41, rode his bike to the service center and went inside to complain about the price of his bill, Local 4 reported. Police said he started shouting threats while in the lobby.

Taugher (pictured, left) said he was going to blow up the building and told employees he would kill everyone inside, according to police. Detectives believe he was under the influence of alcohol.

I have Comcast cable & hi-speed Net myself. It winds up being about $1.50 a day for each...if anything, though, I wish they could make the cable a-la-carte (I don't mean the various digital packages, I mean expanded basic: let me only see the channels I want and get rid of the stuff like
Home Shopping I could care less about. But they say they can't do that...oh well. They figure most people would whittle their selections down to 10 or 20 channels only and then would demand a lower price...whatever.

That's what Comcast did when they bought AT&T cable and internet. I blew up last week and said I was going to BellSouth DSL if they didn't give me a deal similar to the introductory offers out there. They caved in and I have a great hi-speed internet rate for three months. Then I'll dump them and go DSL. Comcast can go eff themselves

Actually the Comcast-Time Warner-Adelphia deal is not a done deal, yet. Cablevision gets another crack at it before anything is decided. But I would think the Comcast/Time Warner deal will most likely be the one to be accepted.

You have to stop and think about the fact when you pay $55 for Comcast Cable HSI, you are paying for the line and access. With Bell South DSL you are paying for the access. You pay for the line via your local phone bill. So you need to add your phone bill and DSL bill together to get the true cost.

I'll stand to be corrected but I thought I read somewhere the cable company got a cut of the home shopping channels, either via an affiliate deal or for carrying them.

If true stuff they can "charge for" and get paid for as well. The ultimate in cheap content.

Can anyone verify if they (the cable companies) have a financial interest in the shopping channels?

You have to stop and think about the fact when you pay $55 for Comcast Cable HSI, you are paying for the line and access. With Bell South DSL you are paying for the access. You pay for the line via your local phone bill. So you need to add your phone bill and DSL bill together to get the true cost.

Technically, you are right. However, assuming you are going to have a telephone line that you pay for anyway, you only have to add the DSL cost to your phone bill. My DSL is about $32 on top of my regular phone bill.

Yes if you are able to brow beat the telco(except for Qwest, which is the only telco to offer naked DSL) over the head to get a Basic $5-$10 phone line plus the DSL Lite $19.99 then you can get a cheaper service. But bang for buck you get a better deal from Comcast as far as bandwidth, only exception being the local phone service. Which can be remedied with a cheap VOIP service(Comcast's VOIP is not cheap).

Anyways whatever makes one happy. I have had cable Internet since AT&T bought out TCI and have been very happy. I would only consider changing if Verizon brought their FTTP service to my city. My brother got a phone call from Comcast on the same day he received an advertisement in the mail for Verizon FTTP. Comcast told him they were cutting $40 off his bill. So he now gets HSI and Digital Plus TV for $67 instead of $107. Lucky Bastard :P

There already are some services available. Cinemanow being the biggest as far as Videos. http://www.cinemanow.com/home.aspx

TV content is still slow coming from the big content providers. Most of them like Disney don't see a point in changing or making any deals with the telcos for their new IPTV services. So it maybe a while before you start to see the mainstream content providers offering streaming video. I wish History Channel would, since that is about all I watch.

Are you sure you can do that under the terms of the agreement? I have NEVER seen a high-speed IP give a deal without a penalty for quitting before you pay the regular rate for a period equivalent to the one you had the deal for.
