CANTON, Texas (AP) - A high school coach was shot on the campus Thursday, a newspaper reported.

The condition of the victim, who reportedly was shot at the school's athletic field house, wasn't immediately available. The Tyler Morning Telegraph quoted Tyler police spokesman Don Martin as saying the victim was Gary Joe Kinne, the Canton High School athletic director.

Kinne was transported by helicopter to a Tyler hospital, where his condition is unknown, the newspaper reported on its Web site.

Isn't it sad that school shootings have become so common that we barely take notice anymore? Public schools have become no better than prisons. But at least prisons allow religious services and prayer. Our nation is reaping what we have sowed. It will only get worse.

A guy in a black pick-up went to the gym that is separate from the school, went in and shot one of the Coaches.

The Coaches condition is unknown but he was rushed to a hospital.  The shooter is on the loose in the area.  I guess he drove off.

I've read that school shootings are less common now than they were in the early 90's.

The only difference is the location has changed from the inner cities to the suburbs and rural areas.

And the news only reports what happens in places where we least expect it.

The great social experiment in latchkey kids and no adults in the house is a booming success - not. Too many parents have no clue has to what is going on with their teens. Then everybody finds out - too late.
