FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)
TheHound

Posted on 04/06/2005 6:50:29 PM PDT by TheHound

Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

FR is better than magazines none of those multi lil subscription thingys fall out of the screen.

And I don't have to recycle!

Or clutter wall space with back issues I might want to read later!

Different times topics are in the forefront.

When the subject matter is not keeping my attention it gets me out of here doing something else for awhile.

But I always lurk or start posting again. No reason to stop paying as a monthly, it all evens out in the end.

And now a days where can you hang out for $20 bucks a month.

In my world $66,000.00 is two years salary. Not measly for me.

I do however agree with you for all the traffic around here if everyone gave a measly monthly donation we would not need to have Freep a thons four times a year.

Being a disabled person and on a limited income, I've continued my monthly 20.00 contribution,

There came a point where I had to avoid FR because of all of the Schiavo threads. There was too much unsubstantiated, wild-eyed rumour being bandied about and when simple, plain facts were presented, those that kept a level head were accused of being a part of the culture of death.

It seemed as if every other thread was about Terri and I had my fill of the "hate Jeb, hate President Bush" for not calling in the cavalry to rescue her. It seemed as if those people who were for limited government intervention such as what happened as during the Elian affair wanted the government to intervene as they did during the Elian affair. I personally thought we were riding a slippery slope if Gov. Bush called in the troops because we sure would be up in arms if the dems did the same thing for one of their pet projects.

I didn't like Terri's parents not being allowed to take care of her. I didn't like the fact we were practicing euthanasia on a non-terminally ill person. I didn't like Mike Schiavo having a fiance and 2 children with his fiance. I didn't like Greer and his continual rulings against Terri. There was a lot I didn't like but I also disliked accusation and rumor mongering against Mike Schiavo being a murderer. There was so much innuendo, name calling and the like that I eventually had to post elsewhere.

If we can get back to our stated roots and quit attacking each other, I'll be glad to continue to contribute as much as I'm able to every month. FR has provided me with so much more than I can ever hope to repay.

Let's get back to doing what we do best and quit attacking posters with different beliefs.

Maybe it has something to do with longtime Freepers being called Nazis, pro-death, etc.

'Nazis' is inflamatory, but 'pro-death' would seem to be a neutral statement of fact.

Sorry, but if this is meant to convince people that there's nothing to see here, it's having just the opposite effect for me. Last year's 2'nd quarter fundraiser came up with $60,000 in 194.5 hours, or $308.40/hour. 2003's 2'nd quarter fundraiser did $60,000 in 197 hours, or $304.56 per hour. This year, after about 136 hours, the total is $20,276, or $149.08 per hour - half of what it was for the last two 2'nd quarter drives. Even if you throw in the monthlies at $11,460, that's still only $233.35 per hour so far this year, a decline of 25% compared to 2Q 2004.

I'm not trying to convince anyone about anything -- I just put it up because someone requested that I do so.

I have not even read the thread, nor do I intend to.

It ain't over till it's over -- we are only into our 5th day including a weekend (always slow).

Don't try to draw me into your argument -- I have better things to do.

Was it wrong to kill Terri Shiavo

She wasn't 'killed'. Killed in my mind insinuates murder. I don't remember reading about any formal charges brought against Schiavo, Greer, or any of the hospice workers. Perhaps you could provide the links to those...And to believe some 'conservatives' have the audaity to complain about slanted questions from the media. I guess it depends on which way the question is slanted huh?

Yeah how about that poll? Talk about framing or spinning the poll question to support your agenda! Jeez...

Apparently if you didn't support the circus in Florida with the crackpots that wanted Jeb to wipe his butt with the Constitution and take over the hospice with guns blazing, then you are "PRO-MURDER"!

That's so wrong.

I know. I'm an animal lover myself but always thought it was funny in a wierd sick kinda way.

It was popular on Freepathon threads when I first started here and I'm feeling a bit nostalgic lately.

I'll promise not to post it again :-)

Dittoes, I'd like to hear the names of those that were "banned".... I don't believe it. Only DU trolls and disruptors were banned. I highly doubt any long-time FReepers were banned.

By my count there were three that posted an opus and left: hhutch, poohbah and long cut.

"I think it was the worst thing to happen to FR in a while."

Puts one in mind of the BADJOE/Saturday Night Massacre incident.
