FreeRepublic Pledges (Vanity)
TheHound
Posted on 04/06/2005 6:50:29 PM PDT by TheHound
Why do these pledge periods have to take so long? For a measly $66,000, I would think the pledge period would only last about a week. If everyone who used this cite for longer, in a year, than they do reading a magazine subsciption, pledged the price of a magazine subscription, I believe the pledge amount would be met in about two days. I certainly hope the day never comes when I have to see "Cialis" ads blinking on the right side of the FR page so they can pay for bandwidth!

You can defend your survival for $5 a month, but you cannot defend yourself from the inevitable death in the future no matter how hard you try.

Until next time.

You'll need to reduce that number on your tagline by one after this month.

Obviously. Even the "Vanity thread" rule went lax.

Is that a "Deep Thought"?
Have to admit, went right over my head.

I started that list, and I'm not going anywhere.
So, yes.

There's been overkill lately, but I think FR will survive this and calm down.
It's survived immigration, the 2000 primary and 3rd parties, Keyes several times over, the AWB debates(when Bush stated his willingness to sign), the Patriot Act debates, Elian. It's even survived internal office politics. If it can survive that, it will survive the Terri Schiavo case.
That said, I do there there are too many bannings and worse - calls for bannings and mod running by cliques and individuals that can't handle debate or different opinions.(The running to the mods like a kindergardner particulary irks me) That probably shortened some of the tempers by some. That's just my own opinion and not my call to make. I also think that part of this is flareup from previous cases and issues and just erupted with the border issues flaring up just before this.
I also think part of the flareups is the loss of the enemy. Klinton united all. Al Gore and John Kerry were easy to dislike in the election years. There were also the gubenatorial and congressional elections in 2002. The enemy is gone, and there's no presidential election for 6 years.
I think it'll get back to normal in the 06 elections, flare up some more infighting in early 07, and then it's primary season 08.

But what some people did here, was resort to calling people Nazis instead of appealing to them through reason and facts. And that is why I stayed away from the issue and continue to do so.

Well, I'll be helping my dad build his (and my mom's) new house.

I may have an advantage in here that some of our more youthful posters can't claim.
Whether from advancing age or the sowing of wild oats many moons ago, my memory pretty much sucks,
hence it's practically impossible to remember who I'm supposed to be pissed at w/o keeping a list, which is too much bother.
There's a pretty good chance I've since posted nice things to people I might've thought deserved to be shot during the TS travails.
Perhaps that same semi-dementia will prevent another pointless FR opus in future.
The day will simply come when some bonehead in here gets me so torqued I'll stalk away and then forget where I left the pc...

Maybe it has something to do with longtime Freepers being called Nazis, pro-death, etc. Word!

Elian was really bad as well.
The forum will rebound.
But, I can understand why folks would be more hesitant to plop down cash this time.
