It would have been the ideal assignment for Jimmy - sending a twerp who is forgotten but not gone, to represent us at the funeral of a man who is gone but not forgotten.

I still don't get the Clinton-Bush buddy-buddy connection.... what's that about?
It's about getting Hillary elected. The only way slick willy can look respectable is to stand between the Bush Presidents. It's truly sickening. Enough is enough.

It's about Bush harnessing for good Clinton's desire for the spotlight.
Clinton wants the spotlight, so Bush gave him a role to raise funds for the tsunami, and maybe there are other future roles, where bi-partisan representation is needed.
But I am sure Bush knows that he can't trust Clinton.

It was for his own protection. The Easter Bunny is Catholic and we know any bunny can whip Jimmah's ass.
The mullahs proved that.
Jimmah "Milaise" Carter, the ultimate whimpy Democrat.

Slick indeed. It just makes me wonder about the mental health of older Mr. Bush and his judgement. Hillary hanging with Laura .. can't see it.

I don't think it is necessarily a buddy-buddy connection... I think it's just a matter of 43 people have held the Office of President of the Untited States in the history of the world, 5 of whom are still with us....
Makes it a pretty small club to be part of, and although Clinton brought enormous shame to the office, he still ran the country for 8 years. I assume that there is just an unspoken respect to each other because each has teh understanding of what holding the office entails...

Official delegations were limited to a max of 5 people at the request of the Vatican. There wasn't room to take everyone who wanted to go.

I was half-listening to one of the lunchtime babblers today (Boortz? Limbauhg?) and he mentioned something about the numbers of invited senators and congressmen heading to rome to, probably, try to get their faces on-camera during the funeral...
Anyone else hear about that?

I can understand Carter not going, but why is Slick Willy making the trip? He opposes everything the Pope stands for.

I still don't get the Clinton-Bush buddy-buddy connection.... what's that about? Rehabilitating Clinton is an attempt to preserve the dignity of the ex-presidents club. Shove dirt under the carpet to protect the presidency as an institution. Don't agree with it...but that is what is being done.

why should he care? he is a southern baptist. don't ya think he would be outta place at a pope's funeral? Not if the pope was an anti-American communist dictator, then Jimmy would be in front carrying the coffin.

why should he care? he is a southern baptist. don't ya think he would be outta place at a pope's funeral? Two Popes died during Carter's administration. He sent his wife as the US representative to the first funeral and he sent his mother to the second. Could it be that he just has a "thing" about Catholics?

Take heart, Jimmah: you can wait and pay your respects to a murdering despot, when he dies.
That's all you're good for, these days.
