I don't think it is necessarily a buddy-buddy connection... I think it's just a matter of 43 people have held the Office of President of the Untited States in the history of the world, 5 of whom are still with us....
Makes it a pretty small club to be part of, and although Clinton brought enormous shame to the office, he still ran the country for 8 years. I assume that there is just an unspoken respect to each other because each has teh understanding of what holding the office entails...

But holding the office entails far different considerations for the Bushes than it does for the Clintons. For the Bushes, it is about woirking for the good of the country, whereas for the Clintons it is about amassing power and wealth for themselves.
