VANITY NOTICE: I've just learned that I am an "EXTREMIST!" WOO HOO!!

Nicest compliment I've received in a long time.

"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice; moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."

Y'all might want to be careful who you hang out with. If you are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-constitution, pro-Liberty, pro-America and post to FreeRepublic.com, you risk being labeled as an "extremist."

That puts you in the company of extremist folks like George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Ben Franklin, & Co.

As extremists, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Speaking of quotes from our extremist forefathers, someone sent me these this morning:

George Washington - "..And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion... Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

John Adams - "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

James Madison - "We've staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future ...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded."

Noah Webster - "No truth is more evident to any mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

Oh, OK, I see your point. Just as an aside, I do not believe it would be legal to withhold food and water from any living person even if that was thier wish. I do not concider food and water medical treatment, and I do not believe in state assisted suicide.

Understanding your view - it is unquestionably the law in Florida that this very thing is legal.

Try this on for size. Jefferson wrote and Madison proposed a law criminalizing the breaking of the Sabbath in Virginia.

Back then, the 1st amendment applied only to the Federal government. It was also passed relatively early in Madison's career; he became far more devoted to separation of church and state later on.

And besides, it doesn't mean that the quote included in the original post is any less bogus.

Hmmm! Unless those 51 spineless senate republocrats get off their collective asses and do something about judicial nominations, by 2008 that confession will get you jailed (or worse).

Of course, for myself, "worse" will definitely be the alternative, since I consider you (and Attila the Hun) to be far to the left of me.....(:-)

yes, Fla conciders food and water medical treatment. I think Fla is one messed up place, and most likely other states are as bad or worse. I understand that everything was legal. And that makes me very afraid for our nation. I can't make the it wasn't legal argument, cause it was legal, but I can make the argument that if klind of stuff remains legal then bad things will happen.

No.

I spend some time in the Catholic Church. I'm in an interfaith marriage with a Catholic. For that reason, I'm spend some time studying Church doctrine - particularly as it relates to me and my family - I'm trying real hard to provide a consistent and accurate picture to my daughter of why some things are the way they are - like why I stay in the pew when she goes to the rail. That being said, I'm far from an expert.

Thanks for the illuminating post!

What bothered me more than anything else about the specious coverage of the Schiavo case is the way these "news" outlets blatantly misrepresented the teachings of the Church.

Even after the Pontiff-on his deathbed, no less-came to the defense of human life, they disregarded his words and tried to impute their desire, i.e., the discontinuation of simple life-sustaining measures for Terri Schindler, to the John Paul II, which made their declarations on this subject all the more galling.

You can put me in the category of those who believe (a) that at least 75% of what gets said about her trial is untrue, (b) we - none of us - can ever know for certain if her trial was completely fair, but (c) if there was any inherent unfairness in the proceeding, it most certainly would've been pointed out either by the 2nd DCA in the exhaustive reviews they made of her case or by one of her three guardians ad litem, who were all very qualified and appeared to be very competent.

I'll add (d) - one who is very suspicious of allegations of "unfairness" in the original trial when they grow and multiply the further away from that trial one gets.
