TAMPA - As a child, Amy Perez attended different Christian churches, praying at Catholic Masses and singing at Baptist revivals. But she never felt satisfied with the answers those faiths provided to her questions. At 12, Perez left Webb Middle School for the Universal Academy of Florida, a Muslim school in Tampa, because she did not like the cliques and social scene at Webb. And she wanted to learn more about Islam.
--yeah--I'll bet there's a long line at every mosque--
Experience is a dear school, but a fool will learn no other way!
I guess some girls/women love to follow moon gods and to be treated like property with less value than cattle.
Unless these women are deformed, I would imagine most women don't like 700ad fashions.
These women are introduced to "Islam Light" and too late learn what Islam is really like. Usually after it is too late to do anything about it.
Well said~!
This sure looks familiar. I wonder if this 'testimony' isn't being recycled every 3 months or so.
This "news" story is just an advertisement for Islam without any backstory.
My question is, whom did Amy's mother begin dating when Amy was 12?
That might contextualize the story a bit.
According to the article, she found peace. It also states that, while most think that Islam oppresses women, it actually elevates the status of women, and they see it as a liberation of sorts. They like the respect for women that it teaches. They also like the lack of intermediaries between them and God.
It must be an individual thing.

Please place the word "Suicidal" or "Idiot" at the beginning of the title.
Maybe Amy Perez should read this online book first, especially Chapter 3, The Status of Women in Islam:

Perhaps their version is what you call 'Islam lite', and they have no intention of practicing 'Islam heavy'.
I would guess, that that is not the case in her mosque. Just as there are many different Christian churches, there are probably many different mosques. Probably depends on the neighborhood, and it's members. Besides, no one has to do what their church/synagogue/mosques tells them to do. I'm sure, if it became something she didn't like, she would stop doing it...like most people do.
Sure, she can leave.... Ever hear the term 'honor killing'? Bet she hasn't, YET!
I would be interested in what sort of Tom Cat Momma brought home before this too. Or what sort of tom cat is in the Mosque, they like 'em young you know.
Oh give me a freaking break.
That particular abomination is not specific to Islam, but rather to a part of the world. It is practiced nearly universally among Ethiopian Christians.
As for little Amy, she obviously had her parents' approval to explore Islam, since 12 year olds don't make independent decisions to attend private schools.
More than anything else, this is a sad commentary on our public schools. If they weren't rotten and violence-ridden, there's little chance that Amy would have wanted to transfer in the first place, much less liked the Islamic school better after she got there.
