Clive Owen to Be Officially Announced as James Bond Next Week

Following it's earlier claim that Clive Owen has been confirmed as the 6th James Bond 007, IESB.com has released the evidence behind the headline.

After a few questions about his current movie 'Sin City' he was asked about the rumours regarding James Bond.

'Yes or no to Bond?' He said 'I will be busy for awhile' while nodding his head yes, and repeated it with a grin and a smile.

The report continued as saying that the reporter was then contacted by colleague that works with Clive and stated that Bond was a done deal and that an official announcement in the trades was being brokered.

One other inside source is telling the site to expect an official announcement next week after the release of 'Sin City.'

Form, a box office viewpoint, that approach has not worked since From Russia With Love. On Her Majesty's Secret Service was an example of that type of film, but it was not well received after Goldfinger and Thunderball. The problem now is that the producers have totally watered down the whole concept of a Bond film. For example, they don't want a memorable badguy like Blofeld or Goldfinger because they don't want to take away from the character of 007.

But they had to change the name and the country of origin of the character. So no american has played British secret agent James Bond. I know its minor semantics and splitting hairs, but its still a fact.

You are right on there. In fact, one commentator has opined that the best way to do a 007 flick is to go back to the beginning, show how Bond started as a spy, and set the movies in the late 1950's/ 1960's, when the times really fit the concept.

I think there are more than enough openings for present-day story lines, but Bond needs to move into Asia more, and more deeply. That's where the action is. None of the movie bonds hand the large facial scar mentioned in the novels. An an interesting note on this subject is the look of the James Bond character that appeared in a British comic strip before the movies came out. The resemblance to Sean Connery is uncanny.

He should be good.. nice looking in a rugged way. I didn't see Sin city yet but liked him in Closer. He had a mideastern look.. I can't say I ever disliked any of the Bond actors.. and each Bond & each movie had its own charm & appeal..Sean Connery was of course classy ... thanks for thread.. will come back & digest it later~ :)

Yeah, that was pretty cool; I liked Robert Shaw's watch that had a garotte wire coiled inside of it.

But the opening scene on the beach in OHMSS where Lazenby kicks the crap out of 3 or 4 guys and then drowns one of them in the surf is still the best fist fight in a Bond movie. You don't see Lazenby's face during most of the fight, but you can immediately tell its not Connery because he moves much quicker and throws harder punches.

What is this JP series?

Jurrasic Park. I saw on FR a couple of days ago, Speilburg is making JP4 and has gotten the original cast back for it. Everyone except the little boy (who is now a grown up, I'm sure). I loved Reilly. I have the entire set on VHS.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. I guess I thought Connery fit best because I saw Thunderball before I started reading the books. Mr. Connery has those great deep dimples, so a scar wouldn't have shown up much. I thought Timothy Dalton did a good job in Living Daylights. I didn't like License to Kill because they didn't get Felix right. I'm not sure they ever have. I really didn't like Jack Lord as Felix....

I loved Jurassic Park! The book was better, but the movie was good, too. I think it would be neat if they could bring back the boy and girl from the first movie. It's obvious time as passed, so why not include them in the story somehow, too?

I'll have to see if "Reilly" is available on DVD and if Netflix has it. Have you seen the movie The Dish, with Neill as the head of a satellite relay facility in Australia at the time of the first Moon landing in 1969? It is a fun movie!

I am a hard core Sam Neill fan. I've seen almost all of his movies. Even some I wished I'd skipped afterwards! I loved The Dish and Children of the Revolution. I'd like to see more of his spy/thriller ones but they aren't easily available. I also liked him in Amerika; he does a Russian so well!

Did you see A Perfect Stranger? He still looks sexy even at 60! Not that I'm not that far behind....HeHe.

I think they wanted the boy from JP1; maybe they couldn't get him... I can't imagine what kind of story line they will use. According to the news release it is to be the true sequel from #1. Lost World Lite, maybe?

I haven't seen many of his movies, but like what he's been in. Dead Calm was a good one, and I've never seen all of The Piano, thought the parts I've seen looked interesting. He was suitable creepy in Event Horizon, though.

My daugher told me about Event Horizon so I skipped it. In Sweet Revenge or Revenger's Comedies, he is nearly nude in one scene; that is a real strange film. Helena Bohnam Carter plays a psycho.
