Bruce Springsteen: 'Devils & Dust' Lyrics
I got my finger on the trigger But I don't know who to trust When I look into your eyes There's just devils and dust
We're a long, long way from home, Bobbie Home's a long, long way from us I feel a dirty wind blowing Devils and dust
I got God on my side I'm just trying to survive What if what you do to survive Kills the things you love Fear's a powerful thing It can turn your heart black you can trust It'll take your God filled soul And fill it with devils and dust
Well I dreamed of you last night In a field of blood and stone The blood began to dry The smell began to rise
Well I dreamed of you last night In a field of mud and bone Your blood began to dry The smell began to rise
We've got God on our side We're just trying to survive What if what you do to survive Kills the things you love Fear's a powerful thing It'll turn your heart black you can trust It'll take your God filled soul Fill it with devils and dust
Now every woman and every man They want to take a righteous stand Find the love that God wills And the faith that He commands
I've got my finger on the trigger And tonight faith just ain't enough When I look inside my heart There's just devils and dust
Well I've got God on my side And I'm just trying to survive What if what you do to survive Kills the things you love Fear's a dangerous thing It can turn your heart black you can trust It'll take your God filled soul Fill it with devils and dust
It'll take your God filled soul Fill it with devils and dust
The Boss is no longer the Boss of himself.
He's seriously disturbed.
He needs to see a shrink.
I used to think "Born in the USA" was a patriotic song.
Bruce Springsteen. He is like soooo last millenium!
This guy has really turned into a clown.
How about a song celebrating the freedom of the Iraqi people?
Doesn't anyone care that they now are no longer under the shadow of Saddam?
Or that there (just maybe) a chance that freedom will break out all over the middle east (and give arabs, for the fisrt time, some of the same human rights that the rest of us enjoy)?
Bruce is ready for the "indian" casino tour. A real dinosaur. I heard the working title for this "song" was "Born To Cut And Run."
I keep hoping that he'll move beyond his recent interest in politics, and shut up and sing, as Laura Ingraham says.
I dread the day that he decides to run for political office here in New Jersey. Of course, he couldn't be much worse than our Senator Lautenberg with his "chicken hawk" cartoon of the Vice President.
And a good portion of those who post here share this.
Many folk who share this animosity toward Judeo-Christian ethics and traditional beliefs couldn't necessarily care about Terri Schiavo.
But they care about abortion and care inversely about Republicans or conservatives being in power.
Terri Schindler represents the "religious right" now.
Yeah, considering his last good album was The River. ....released exactly a quarter century ago.
"How about a song celebrating the freedom of the Iraqi people? Doesn't anyone care that they now are no longer under the shadow of Saddam?"
That's all good, but I think the case needs to be stated in terms of our national security, and not theirs. That case does exist, but it needs to be said.
What a total has-been. He's just using the anti-American thing to get some attention paid to his so lagging career. Sheepdip.
We do owe him a big thank you ,though, for getting out the vote for Bush!
He's lost it. He needs help!
Dear Bruce,
I hope you sit up at night searching the web for newsgroups to see what they say about you.
I grew up a Jersey Girl listening to you. I've been to the Stone Pony. I've been to the beach with you on my boom box. You were apart of my youth.
I now see, you sold your soul for your fame. And I know the piper has come to call. You are now answering to whom granted you your fame and not to those who embraced you.
Fame comes with a price. You seem content to pay the one that got you your fame. What about those who helped you maintain it and embraced you? You owe us nothing?
You celebraties want to be treated like heros. You are not. The men and women that put their lives on the line are the heros.
I now spit on you.
You can bet the farm that if a Democrat were in office and had done exactly what Bush has done Springsteen would've written that song. He's driven by partisan politics, not convictions.
