Judge George Greer ruled that the State of Florida has no right to take custody of Terri Schiavo, which ruling came hours after an appeal by Terri's parents to re-insert the feeding tube was refused by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, another hearing was scheduled tonight before US District Judge James D. Whittemore .. the same judge who previously heard and denied the request subsequent to the 'de novo' intention of the law past last weekend by the Congress and signed by President Bush, in an effort to confirm that no stone was left unturned before Terri would endure legally sanctioned dehydration until death.
In the past I have fervently debated Bush bashers on boards. I have believed in their integrity. But unless one of these two men takes action to saves this woman's life - and ultimately, when you get down to it - the lives of all Americans - I will hold both men accountable. Because constitutionally speaking, they are both accountable to the people for this.
I feel the same way.
I don't think I'll be defending Bush anymore if Terri dies.
I don't know if I'll even keep working for the RNC.
If Terri dies I can see myself simply opting out from now on.
I'll vote for the lesser of two evils, but I will no longer participate as a defender of the party.
If Terri dies, you can just call me Pat Buchanan.
"evil is good and good is evil", to paraphrase...
Lord, we also pray for everyone on this board who is arguing for Terri's murder. I don't think any of them are coming at this with bloodlust...there have been other battles fought here on FR that were right and good, and these people and we have stood together. But they are wrong, Lord, and I pray you will also melt THEIR hearts. And forgive us for angry words we may have said. Forgive us for fighting with friends. Lord, melt hearts, forgive us AND them and let there be unity. Melt the hearts of those who clammor for this innocent woman's death, and show them, Lord, that you are a God of life, not death. You proved that 2,000 years ago. You turned a hopeless situation of torture and murder into peace and life. We pray that now, Lord, not only for Terri, but for all the posters on this board, both pro and con. Forgive US Lord, so that we may also forgive them. In Jesus name.
LOL@Russ7
Can't sleep here in CA. Worried about our little sister. It is hard sometimes to focus when my anger gets the better of me. (I hope it's righteous anger.)
At this point, the blame game doesn't really help. You're sure right about that.
Heavenly Father - Please forgive me for my shortcomings for I am truly sorry. Please give Terri's family courage to keep up the good fight. Please put Holy Ideas into Governor Jeb Bush's heart and mind and the courage to act. Please bless, heal and comfort our little sister, Theresa Marie. In the Blessed Name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
Amen.
I plan to go to the Constitution Party and work for their candidates, and give THEM my money. If it comes down to a Republican and a Democrat in a major election, I will vote for the Republican (after carefully reviewing their history!). But I'm Constitution Party from here on out, hoping and praying they become a major force in this nation.
Amen.
Me, too.
Up just recently, enough to read that nothing has happened since you last checked in, it would appear.
However, I read one post...don't know who or the source...that there are police snipers guarding Woodside [with obvious kill orders...emphasis mine] against any force that might come in to save Terri.
At the same time, people are hammering President Bush now, after pummeling Jeb into the ground and flattening him, for not taking Woodside by force. I understand that, and I know you two have very strong feelings in that direction because I have read your posts.
I also understand the fear of violence and death by Jeb and the President of sending a force into the teeth of this force who are totally loyal to Greer.
On other posts of mine, I have said that Greer is a dictator and a frankenstein monster who must be dealt with, and that our country is under judicial tyranny. Yet I still believe both Bushes did not know until very late in this that they faced what they faced if they tried to save her. I believe they did not understand this domestic enemy and thus were never prepared to effectively exercise their powers to save (unless they sent in the military and began a bloodbath.)
Many have hit at me over this, and have said confidentally that the local police would stand down if confronted by state or federal force. Guess that's why they have snipers ready to kill in order to kill Terri, huh?
I will shut up now. Except to say, this country is in huge trouble and the decent leaders were caught unprepared for anything remotely this bad. To underestimate and misunderstand your enemy is often a fatal flaw.
May God help us all.
I believe there is a lot of truth in what you say. But if that is so, then the Governor needs to get in front of a microphone and say so. If there is any other reason other than, "I caaaaaaaaan't," he needs to put his reasons out here now. The people didn't elect him because he's cute. they elected him to have guts and lead. Same with is brother, the President.
Good thoughts, thanks. You shouldn't be hammered for them.
I may just do the same, even though it would be a conflict of interest at my job. But some things are more important, and this case is definetly more important. This is so difficult. Where's the courage, Bush? Where's the courage I raised money for, rallied for, went door to door for, debated for, registered voters for, and cast my own vote for? Where's the moral courage? This is disgusting. The President has been whipped by a renegade judge.
Lord help us. God may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Snipers???
Wow!
Hope someone w/ a zoom lens gets a pic.
Just one last thought on this. If there are snipers standing ready at a judge's orders to kill civilians who want to give a woman a cup of cold water...then the Governor better shake himself hard, wake up, and realize this is happening in America. Will he stand ASIDE and wait to see if these monsters will murder civilians who are trying to show mercy? It could happen. Why won't he send in the National Guard to make sure NO bloodshed occurs then. I appreciate what you're saying, but any way you look at it, Jeb is wrong, WRONG.
Awestruck, I've read that Hitler referred to himself as a Christian. Here in this case Judge Greer attended a Baptist church. The Bush brothers say they are Christians.
Scripture says we shall know a Christian by his or her fruits. This is not to say a Christian must be perfect for none of us can possibly be such. But overall, a repentant Christian will be growing in love over time. A true Christian's heart is pricked often leading to repentance. This is what we all need to pray for if indeed the Bush brothers are true Christians. God alone really knows.
So now Ralph Nader comes out to say he believes this situation is not good....
Here are my two cents on this. I know people in both camps, conservative and liberal. Most all the conservatives call themselves Christians, but not all show the consistent fruits of one. So it's clear that some people take on the "title of Christian" to achieve certain ends. It may be to establish a social network and increase business sales. It may be just loneliness and trying to find an inexpensive "country club atmosphere" to socialize in. I do not know for sure where such people are coming from, but it is clear by their fruits that they are not true Christians. Some might say that's a judgemental statement, but I find it scriptural: Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
How will I "know them" unless I discern by their fruits, right?
Hitler said he was a Christian so he could fool people, but his fruits showed that he plainly was not one.
As far as liberals showing compassion for this woman, yes, I know some liberals who do have compassion for other people. Compassion does not have to come from God's Spirit entirely. It is a part of being human. Even young babies will cry if they hear another baby crying.
A true Christian is not perfect and will make mistakes, but love will be a hallmark of his or her life. A non-Christian is not perfect either and will make mistakes, but lacking God's Holy Spirit the love will not be as rich as it could be if He accepted the Lord's grace. He still expresses love, but not agape love transcending tribulation.
What disturbs me most in the Terri Schiavo case is we're seeing people "calling themselves Christians" - who appear almost to not have a conscience, Greer, being a case in point.
It may very well help to flood the White House comment line with assurances that Republicans are ditching the party to go elsewhere because of this, and that if the President and Governor of Florida are willing to let judges rule us, WE the PEOPLE are not willing.
I'm immensely disgusted by Congress. For years we have wondered how we can have a majority, yet the liberals keep winning all the battles. Well now we know. Are Republican leaders simply go into a corner and suck their thumbs...and the liberals know this.
Are=Our. Early yet!
Morning everyone.
