Gabriel Keys (foreground) is arrested by police officers for trespassing in Pinellas Park, Florida, March 23, 2005. The young protester attempted to take a glass of water into the Woodside Hospice for the brain-damaged Terri Schiavo. A federal judge rejected a request from the parents of Schiavo to order her feeding tube reinserted, dealing a blow to attempts by the U.S. Congress and the White House to prolong her life.
Amazing, isn't it? I'm sitting here thinking I should've told this story to my oldest son, who's nine, considering the youngest kid arrested there is just 10.
Instead, I've been trying to protect my own from knowing that this type of thing actually happens. A mistake on my part.
I thought the same thing. They gotta be. Otherwise, they'd probably be in school.
"I sure hope this isn't a case of grown-ups exploiting children, the way the liberals do when they send kids on protest marches and sit-ins at state capitols, etc."
I hate it when lib's do it too, but if I lived there I would have my kids out there too.
This is a case where a libral would be justified, yet I bet there isn't one out there.
Something has to give. This is not what America was intended to be.
This is insane. What's happened to this country?
Huh? You can tell a well educated child from a picture?
They did good. I am proud of them for standing up against wrong. If more people would, Terry Schiavo wouldn't be facing death by starvation.
"I'd bet anything these are homeschooled kids who have grown up with strong convictions. I don't think it's a stunt."
I agree. This is the sort of thing that if handled correctly could impact a child compassion for others beyond what words could ever do.
......spring break....
Der Polizei must be very proud.
Those cops should refuse to arrest anyone trying to save Terri. If they arrest those people, they are like cops making sure the cattle cars are locked so no one can get out on the trip to Auschwitz.
How does someone "look home-schooled"?
They're dressed well. The girl is in a skirt, and the boy is in a collared shirt.
As a police officer, I would have had a hard time doing my job. In fact, I may have been fired for letting them go or quitting if I had to arrest them.
Ach, nein, vee vere just following orders, honorable tribunal!
Didn't work at Nuremberg, won't work here.
There are any number of thugs in uniform who take pleasure in abusing children. A brutal murderer with a badge killed a child at Ruby Ridge and his mother. A gang of them burned children alive at Waco. A band of thugs broke into the home of Elian Gonzalez in the dead of night, stuck an automatic rifle in his face, and dragged him off screaming into the night. Kids mean nothing to monsters like these. And neither does the life of Terri Schiavo.
bookmark.
I'm not sure I agree with using the kids this way.
"I sure hope this isn't a case of grown-ups exploiting children,"
Sure looks like it. There's alot of exploitation of this situation going on. It's digusting.
