Former Green Beret Commander Bo Gritz is trying to conduct a citizen's arrest of the Terri Schindler Schiavo's husband and the judge presiding in the case before the handicapped Florida woman is scheduled to have her feeding tube removed so she can be legally starved to death. The 66-year-old retired Army Lt. Colonel with his wife, Judy, arrived in Florida from their home in Nevada yesterday with the intent of arresting anyone involved in removing the woman's feeding tube that keeps her alive. He came bearing a notarized "citizen's arrest warrant" addressed to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Attorney General Charlie Crist. He said his intent is to "papering" state and federal law enforcement offices with his warrant today a day before Circuit Court Judge George Greer has ordered the denial of food and water to Terri Schiavo. Gritz says the "arrest" is designed to allow officials additional options as the Florida governor and legislature maneuver to save the woman from starvation. Gritz says he successfully used the arrest-tool against federal law enforcement in August 1992 when he intervened in the siege at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and brought what was left of Randy Weaver's family down the hill without further bloodshed. Sammy, the 14-year-old Weaver boy, was killed along with his mother, Vicki, and U.S. Marshal William Degan. Randy Weaver and another man, Kevin Harris, were wounded by police gunfire. Gritz secured the services of renowned defense lawyer Gerry Spence, and the U.S. Department of Justice paid the Weavers $3.2 million in an out-of-court settlement. Harris was awarded more than $300,000. Citing his officer's oath of allegiance to "defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic," Gritz says while he doesn't know Terri Schiavo personally, she nevertheless represents an American in danger of citizen-rights abuse, and he feels an obligation to act while she remains alive. Besides a "Terri-Bill" under consideration in the U.S. Congress, the Florida Legislature votes tomorrow on a modified measure to keep Terri's life-support in place. A previous Florida bill was ruled unconstitutional barring further intervention by Gov. Bush. While threatened with arrest at Ruby Ridge, the decorated war hero instead walked away with FBI letters of appreciation.
I have read some things which are of concern to me about Mr. Gritz. As far as David Duke goes- well I am not so quick to condemn everything he has ever done in his life.
I am not saying that I am a huge David Duke fan, but there are some things which he says that make sense to me.
IMO- as with so many right leaning figures, he has been given much bad press.
I am not so certain that his entire message has not been misrepresented by the press.
I do not agree with the tactics of the KKK. I condemn attacks upon law abiding American citizens based upon religion or amount of pigment in their DNA. I support Israel. I believe that the Holocaust was a horrific event. I believe in freedom for all American citizens, whether they are disabled or not.
But I have not read anything which makes me believe that Bo Gritz is the monster the ADL paints him as.
I also take issue with labeling someone "nothing more than an attention hound", because they run for public office, promote a platform or for making money , based upon their interests or skills, all in a Capitalistic society.
Well, truth be known, I only left for about five minutes! An addict always comes back!!!!
Well said.
People like Gritz and his cronies are attracted to such environments like bugs to a zapper, often with similar results.
Go ahead? Can't be done. No one is permitted access except Terri's parents and lawyer, and since they can't videotape it, no one will believe them.
It's a pretty good game Greer is running down there.
I certainly don't want you banned. You've broken no forum rules, and I thjink it is valuable for pro-Terri freepers to know the minset we are up against.
In 15 years, nobody has been able to ask her.
So misunderstood.
[malakhi <-- shaking head incredulously]
If this taints Terri's supporters as well (as it will surely be spun to), what then?
Might the legislature and the governor be tempted to "distance" themselves, lest they be seen as aiding an extremist "hate group"?
If those "unsavory supporters" start trouble, will some people who might have been sympathetic be turned away?
In this day and age, you have to be VERY careful whom you associate with when fighting for a cause. One bad apple, one incident, can deflate all public support.
Please let me know when they throw his silly ass in jail.
Drammach to malakhi:
" Did you see that? "
Malakhi:
" I didn't see nuthin'....
Drammach:
" Me neither. " ...... " Donut? "
Believe me there are many ways to communicate with Terri. I have even communicated, successfully with people who are in advanced states of dying in hospice care.
SO to say she can not answer is a lie, or at best ignorance.
I'll put you on the "poing" list...
/sarcasm..
At least you have the guts to admit what side of the issue you are on in no uncertain terms. I disagree with you strongly, but I respect your forthcomingness. It would be nice to see certain other posters disclose where they stand on this issue while claiming to want to "help Terri supporters".
Beside that, Gritz has a right to do what he is doing- so I can not really condemn him just for that. IF he breaks the law, even advocating for Terri, then he will pay the consequences. If any of his supporters hurt someone that I hope they will as well.
At this point I really don't care what kind of actions are attempted, planned or taken to save that lady. Anything that works ! Get it done....giver her a chance for rehabilitation and life.......A poodle has a better chance at proper care and survival than this poor gal is getting.
Doom on all trying to force her early death....
I guess I'm "anti-donut". ;o)
Very well put.
I seem to recall you hijacking a Terri thread last night by spamming it with Bo Gritz information when the thread in question had nothing to do with Gritz.
1. Re-read the thread, where I RESPONDED to another poster who put up the info with things I knew and thought to be of interest,
2. In regards to "hijacking", look in a mirror.
