Why not feel sorrow for a man who will probably spend an eternity in hell?

I remember an elder in the mennonite church told me you should never weep for the souls who go to heaven but you should always weep and feel pity on the souls that will burn in hell.

Probably not. But let's not Monday morning quarterback here...She was taken hostage and she made the best of it she could.

It's one thing to play the sympathy card while stuck in such a deadly situation but she is continuing with the sympathy crap now the she's no longer in danger.

She did what she had to to get the heck out of her apartment. I'd find a human side in Jeffrey Dahmer if it would mean I could escape and survive.

Exactly.

How could we? Admiring her courage does not preclude one from wishing Nichols to meet justice for his horrendous crimes. I don't judge her words...I have never had a gun to my head, placed by a killer.I have never been required to use my faith, my life experiences, my courage and my wisdom to deal with a murderer on the run, save my life, save others and prevent a big shootout.

She has had an immensely stressful situation from which she may take much time to heal.

It's a good thing he caught up with Ashley, not you. She talked him down. I'm not sure you would have been up to the task, given your comments

You don't know me well enough to say that. When you have a knife held to your throat, get back to me. When you have a gun stuck in you back, get back to me.

I know how to keep my head thank you very much.

She did not find his human side. She found his gullible side. Heck, I can trick my cat into coming by using the "dinner" tone of voice. He's not human.

If you are comparing your cat to that quadruple murderer, you owe your cat an apology, a tummy rub and a can of "the good stuff".

She may not have 'tricked' him but genuinely was living her faith. I've found that a Christian response often works better than my former non-Christian self would have credited.

I have no tears for this evil evil man.

My tears are reserved for the daughter of the court stenographer. Now a girl without a mother or father.

Tears for the Judge, the man out front trying to stop this murderer.

Tears for the ICE man who was murdered in cold blood.

"This story is not about him exclusively, it's about her being a stand-up Christian"

Yes it is. I don't understand why people are second guessing her choices, especially considering what this man had already done at the court house. She could not have overpowered him, or run away. The way she handled the situation allowed her to survive.

Also, she preached the Word of God to this man, which may help him to seek repentance for his sins. His upcoming trial will determine the penalty for his crimes. But, what Ashley did may help restore the man's soul, and return him to the Lord, regardless of the sentence he receives at his trial. This is what Christian's are instructed to do.

Prayers for his victims and their families for comfort and healing as they cope with their grief.

Why not feel sorrow for a man who will probably spend an eternity in hell?

Because he did it to himself. I have absolutely NO sympathy for the ... guy. None.

She said She would do it! Perhaps honesty is really important to Her. Is this so hard to understand?
The Lady actually made a promise, and Her word was more important to Her, than who She gave it to.
I wish I could have found a Lady like this, instead of plowing through many years of lies.
If the end justifies the means, maybe You're a Liberal.

But I think that by focusing on Ashley Smith in such an overwhelming way we are losing sight of the victims and their families.

Huh?

You started the thread.

Like I have said for a while, she appears to have that doe-eyed 'fallen in love' look. The Christian love aspect, being argued by some on FR, looks more like a hopeful thing at best, or a projection at worst.

I've been hearing a lot about that. It's disturbing.

All you have to do is listen to her. She sees it from his point of view.

I haven't seen her interviewed, but I read a transcript where she sounded rational to me. And part of what she discussed with the guy was how he'd devastated the families of the people he'd killed.

I don't for a minute think this woman "Bonded" with her captor and if she did in that short of time I don't know what to think.
There is a lot to this story and I heard a number of facts I didn't know listening to the Tammy Bruce Show today.
I would like to know a lot more on this woman.

I was listening to Sean a few minutes ago as he was interviewing Ashley on the telephone. Apparently her husband got into an argument with a friend that escalated out of control. He was stabbed in the heart. Before he collapsed he managed to stagger over to where she was and collapsed in her arms and died.

Also, I have read comments over the last few hours, here on FR, suggesting something dark and perhaps violent in her background. In the interview I just listened to, she stated that before her husband died she was a stay at home mom. She took care of her husband and daughter, that that was what she was "good" at then. Since her husband's murder, her whole life has changed. She was trying to make this man understand, that as a result of his actions, many many people were in pain, with lives shattered, and all because of him. There were consequences to actions one decides to take in life, and he had to live up to that fact and be punished for his deeds.

Sounds like she got through to him and defused the situation, totally. He waved the white flag and surrendered before they even had a chance to get on the bull horn. The decision to end it was made before the police got there. The legal system will do what it has to to this man. I personally belive that he should, and will be, executed for his crimes. I am also so relieved things ended the way they did, with nobody else, even this creep, dying violently.

BTW, one of the news channels this morning showed a picture of Ashley, her husband and her daughter which must have been taken shortly before he was killed. They looked like an extremely nice all-American family.

She seems to be handling this situation in a most Christian way. She appears to really live her faith.

I'm seriously agnostic, but she impresses me to no end.
