Thanks, jan. These are true heroes.
Also, let's not forget that there are many other heroes.
Monday, we welcomed a coworker back from 2 years over in Iraq and Afghanistan (National Guard...2 years overseas.....>sigh<)
Yesterday, another coworker--a civilian right here at home--was killed.
It's kind of a reminder that death can touch us anywhere, and there are many people serving over there who haven't died, but are still risking it every day. We must all cherish the freedoms they bring us, and remember that each day could be our last.

I have no words that could adequately express my gratitude to these brave men who died to protect their buddies and our freedoms.
Can't remember the exact quote but does goes something like:
Peaceful men sleep well at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
May these and all those who've died in the WOT rest peacefully in the Father's arms and may the Holy Spirit comfort their families. Also, may our Lord give solace to those maimed in battle.

I first read about SFC Smith at a Harley dealer near me (Earl Small's), where his motorcycle was to be auctioned off for his family. I touched it, sat on it, and looked in the mirrors. I could almost see his face looking back. It was a touching moment and I was taken aback when I read the whole story and the accounts of his buddies that were with him, and stared at the almost life sized poster of him.
He truly deserves to be honored.
RIP, buddy!
