"Sovereignty. The issue is huge. The mere mention of Kofi Annan in the U.N. caused the crowd to go into a veritable fit. The coalition wants America strong and wants the American flag flying overseas, not the pale blue of the U.N."
So George W. Bush confided to friend Doug Wead before he declared his candidacy. And, twice, President Bush has acted to defend U.S. sovereignty gainst the encroachments of global government.
He rejected both the International Criminal Court, which would have ceded power to prosecute U.S. soldiers, and a Kyoto Treaty that would have subjected our economy to the dictates of a global EPA.
Which makes astonishing Bush's apparent support for a Law Of the Sea Treaty that Ronald Reagan rejected as a great leap forward into global socialism. By 19 to 0, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved LOST. Unless 34 senators can be rallied to reject this historic power grab, it will go into effect.

And scads of "conservatives" are over lallygagging at "today's Freeper pics of GWB", as if our political future was their adult version of living in a movie magazine world.
SHEESH!
As long as Kennedy's not driving, that will be fine.
PING!
The global civil society, as recently shown in Lebanon, will not allow a centralist power such as the UN to gain sovereignty. Weak and failed states are being repaired, which is to the good of all, but the UN is not a state and never will be. We are not headed for a world gov't.
Just look at this sorry bunch:
Richard G. Lugar..... Indiana...........Chairman
Chuck Hagel............ Nebraska
Lincoln Chafee......... Rhode Island
George Allen............ Virginia
Norm Coleman......... Minnesota
George Voinovich.... Ohio
Lamar Alexander...... Tennessee
John E. Sununu........ New Hampshire
Lisa Murkowski....... Alaska
Mel Martinez............ Florida
Not a serious, intelligent conservative in the bunch. Whom amongst them are you going to count on?
And the Freeper gang piles on me when I rant about shills like Rush or Fred Barnes going on and on about the "conservative revolution".
BAH! It's worse than humbug.
It won't look much like the U.N., friend.
The idea of a world gov't seems to have been shelved. Sure, there are some who are still blind to the failure of Communist Empire, but they are fading from the scene rapidly. What is happening now is that weak and failed states are in process of being shored up and being made to evolve toward a more productive mode of existence. Iraq and Afghanistan are the start and the role models, but this idea is spreading quickly. We should be optimistic that a world of a multiplicity of fairly strong states of limited scope with fairly strong domestic institutions is approaching quickly and with no interest in world gov't. The UN is already one foot in the dumpster.
Then they can be lord over satan....because they sure are more evil than satan.
Contact Frist and Lugar. Probably a waste of time especially with Lugar, but I wrote him anyway and asked him if he'd LOST his mind and to please reconsider.
Jeff Sessions is dead set against this. God I hope he can rally the support to stop it. He might even be a good one to contact as to ideas on what we can do to help him. I hadn't thought of that until just this minute, or I would have done it already.
Goes without saying here, but this whole thing is insane.
There is something wrong with all of this.
Consider who wrote the piece: Patrick J. Buchanan
He used to be creditable, now he is a joke.
Even a blind squirrel unearths the occasional acorn.
You may be right but I need to know a lot more about it
then what Pat wishes to tell us.
I am all for dumping the UN. That is not the point.
Thank you....I Just did.
I thought Aquaman was lord of the seas...
So you think Pat made up the 19-0 committee vote?
IMO, you're too much of a crackpot to be posting here.
