Never in his wildest dreams did Osama bin Laden think it would turn out this way.

No kidding. Talk about unintended consequences!

After the Condi photo (zow!), I'm surprised they're not applying for statehood.

Don't try to put words in my mouth to back up your ludicrious assumptions on this thread.

I favor whatever the people want; since you're so busy trying to make this sound bad, perhaps you missed the news today that Muslims AND Christians were in the streets today, together.

Right. I am disgusted with Fox. I suspect they have no one on the scene over there, hence no live coverage. - Big mistake, huge mistake.

The Axis allies of WWII consisted of more than one nation.

My thoughts exactly.

The Lebanese Government resigns so they are not culpable for what is to come next (15,000 Syrian troops can quickly overwhelm those civilian demonstrators) Tiannamin square comes to mind.

Syria has been making gestures to the USA, supposedly lulling us into a sense of misplaced benevolence.

We had better be very very careful and well prepared.

"If not for the great changes that occurred in Iraq and the recent elections in Iraq, the grip of fear would still have been very strong in Lebanon and holding the people down.
President Bush Great Middle East project to spread freedom and democracy has a lot to do with what you see now in Lebanon."YES Thank you

The Lebanese were reading between the lines.

Yes, they sure were. While their movement needed a spark, in this case the assassination of their former prime minister, it's clear the Lebanese people were ready to sieze the moment and push for their freedom. No rational person could deny that it was GWB's strong stand on behalf of the oppressed peoples of the Middle East that opened this door for the Lebanese people.

"Your turn will come, Lahoud, and yours, Bashar," the demonstrators chanted, referring to President Lahoud and his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad.

Mob rule?

I highly doubt that. The people there are smart.

Freedom and democracy are the anti virals to the deadly virus, Islamofascism.

Very well put.

And do you really think the Axis in WWII was made up of only German, Italian, and Japanese troops? Sheesh...you're wrong...let it go....lol

Ummm.... not buying it. I mean, I buy the resignation, I highly doubt the motive. Something bigger is going on in the background - either an ultimatum to Syria or an ulterior motive from Damascus. I'm betting it's the latter.

The motive of Syria is to somehow survive the pressures that they are under....giving up Saddam's brother? ....WOW...you know they were pulling in a lot of CASH from that....

And yesterday ...in a late night AP report, there was this little kicker....Saturday's Baghdad newspaper Al-Mada reported that Syria provided information that led Iraqi authorities to breaking up 35 insurgent cells in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and arresting some 750 suspected militants.

No kidding. Talk about unintended consequences!

Osama thought he was dealing with another Bill Clinton. Instead, the cowboy from Texas is more like Ronald Reagan, James Steward and John Wayne all rolled into one.

Coop doesn't think Syria is a state that sponsors and harbors terror. Hell, their government is comprised of terrorists!! LMAO!!!!

Coops entitled to his/her opinions, even though incorrect.

Syria was part of the reason Syria was called in to help end the civil war.

The justifications used for sponsoring terror are different, but the results remain the same: innocent dead people.

Of course that is a concern...but the order would have to come from Syria. With the US at one door, and Israel at the other they are between the proverbial "rock and a hard place." I doubt they would move in that direction now. They are stumped for sure. And the outcry against an event like Tiannamin square in this day and age would be far to risky.
