My thoughts exactly.

The Lebanese Government resigns so they are not culpable for what is to come next (15,000 Syrian troops can quickly overwhelm those civilian demonstrators) Tiannamin square comes to mind.

Syria has been making gestures to the USA, supposedly lulling us into a sense of misplaced benevolence.

We had better be very very careful and well prepared.

Of course that is a concern...but the order would have to come from Syria. With the US at one door, and Israel at the other they are between the proverbial "rock and a hard place." I doubt they would move in that direction now. They are stumped for sure. And the outcry against an event like Tiannamin square in this day and age would be far to risky.

Do a news search on Lebanon for the last two weeks. This isn't a surprise.

David Satterfield was in Lebanon this morning to press Syria into withdrawing troops. France, America and the UN have all spoken out very recently. The protesters must have realized they had the advantage. Syria knows it can't go in and install a new government or mow down the protesters with the ENTIRE world watching. We'd annihilate them.
