Based on nothing other than pure speculationn, I anticipate a coup in Syria within a year.
Definitely regime change of some sort. If Bashir tries to make nice by making a nationally televised speech announcing Lebanese withdrawal, ejection of foreign terrorists, etc, he'll be seen as losing his grip, and the whole mess will come apart, perhaps leading to a military coup. I expect him to take a hard line, not least because Syria is in on the plan (with Egypt and Saudi Arabia) to attack Israel again.

Meanwhile C-Span2 is showing a 1/27/2005 World Economic Forum panel discussion about the Future of the Muslim World.
The leaders (from Egypt, Iran and Pakistan) don't seem to realize how quickly things will be changing.

Just heard Rush Limbaugh mention it too. Hallelulia!
Some resignations handed in are more welcome than others.

CAN PORTER TURN SYRIA ORANGE?
Dr. Jack Wheeler - Author of the Reagan Doctrine
Thursday, February 17, 2005
Immediately after the success of Ukraines Orange Revolution, all the buzz in foreign policy Washington was: to where can we next export it? Russia? Belarus? Azerbaijan? Iran?
The answer became blazingly clear this week: Syria. With Syrias assassination of Rafik Hariri in Beirut on February 14, Porter Goss has been handed a golden opportunity on a platinum platter to expand the Bush Doctrine in the Middle East and get rid of the Assad tyranny. The critical question: is his CIA up to it?
Despite the usual denials and red herrings, only Syria could have made the professional hit on Hariri, with 700 pounds of explosives planted under the asphalt after repairs a few days before, blowing up his armored convoy as it passed over. The hit was conducted by a Lebanese unit of Syrias Shu'bat al-Mukhabarat al-'Askariyya, Military Intelligence Service, on the orders of Syrian President Bashar al-Assads brother-in-law, Assef Shawkat.

Yeeeeha! I can't believe I don't have a TV in front of me. I can barely see the screen my eyes are so tearful. If Syria doesn't leave soon peacefully I'd be crushed after having so much hope. Thank you George W!!! May God bless you and the American people!
A hopeful Lebanese.
