Virginia man charged in alleged plot to assassinate Bush By MATTHEW BARAKAT

Associated Press Writer

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A former high school valedictorian in Virginia was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and conspiracy to support the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, made an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court. He claimed that he was tortured while detained in Saudi Arabia since June of 2003 and offered through his lawyer to show the judge his scars.

The indictment said that in 2002 and 2003 Abu Ali and an unidentified coconspirator discussed plans for Abu Ali to assassinate Bush. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali "would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street" and, alternatively, "an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb."

More than 100 supporters of Abu Ali crowded the courtroom and laughed when the charge was read aloud alleging that he conspired to assassinate Bush.

I don't suppose anyone knows whether his supporters are now under somebody's watch?

I am completely opposed to the proposition evidently being offered on this thread that the media omit the FACT that this man was born in the U.S. (Texas) and did in fact live in Virginia.

It seems to me that most of the rhetoric here has to do with MSM omitting the fact that the man is Islamic. I don't see a lot of proposing to omit the rest of the story.

That may be what you see, but my point stands. There were complaints that the fact he hails from Virginia was mentioned.

His name and the other details have also been prominently reported, such as going off to join al Qaeda.

While you and others wish to moan over how it's being reported, I have no complaints. And I stand second to nobody in my criticism of the MSM.

My husband (Flemish) looked over my shoulder just as this picture appeared and I told him that this was the guy who wanted to kill the President...his reply...'someone should just shoot that Muslim terrorist'...my point being that there is someone from Europe who loves George W. Bush!

As a Texan, my reply was to string him up and save the taxpayers a lot of money.

Are his supporters laughing because they think he is being railroaded or because murder plots are inherently amusing to them?

I agree with your question. Later in the story the family seems to indirectly admit that this guy was doing something wrong.

"His family contends that U.S. officials were behind his detention by Saudi authorities and wanted him held in that country so he could be tortured for information."

To me, the family is saying that the guy did, in fact, have crimes to confess (they aren't saying the Saudi's were trying to get a false confession, just using torture for accurate info).

How many of the 1.2 Billion Muslims condemned the terrorists?

I have no problems with Muslims -- except those who support terrorism expressly or by their silence, by not denouncing it.

Since we only hear loud support for terrorism or silence from most of those 1.2 Billion Muslims, we can only conclude they are all supporting terrorism.

Why don't the "peaceful 99%" of the Muslims speak out loudly against terrorism?

And that says it all.

Apparently this terrorist is not even eligible for the death penalty in the US for his actions. The news said, he could get a maximum of 80 years.

Here is a guy who is a supporter of Al Qaeda, wanted to assassinate the president and we can't even give him the death penalty?! What is the matter with our judicial system?!

Not moaning. Just pointing out the typical garbage tactics of the MSM in trying to protect TRoP.

The rest of the story is equally important. The enemy is also within.
