SOLDIER STUNNED BY LETTER KIDS' RANTS
New York Post ^ | 2-21-2005 | David Andreatta

An American soldier overseas is fuming over letters he received from Brooklyn middle-school children accusing GIs of destroying mosques and killing civilians in Iraq.

Pfc. Rob Jacobs of New Jersey said he was initially ecstatic to get a package of letters from sixth-graders at JHS 51 in Park Slope last month at his base 10 miles from the North Korea border.

That changed when he opened the envelope and found missives strewn with politically charged rhetoric, vicious accusations and demoralizing predictions that only a handful of soldiers would leave the Iraq war alive.

The letters were written as a social-studies assignment.

It infuriates me, too. At least it went to a soldier in Korea, instead of Iraq (where the accusations are really rank BS, not many mosques in Korea).

BTW, if you read the article, the letter which accused the soldiers of destroying mosques was written by a Muslim student (OK, so I read the whole article.)

Some of the programming here begins at home imho.

I teach in Maine, and my school sent cookies and pictures made by students to Iraq last fall. The troops loved them and we plan to send more this spring.

Thanks so much for supporting our troops. You're the kind of teacher I remember having a hundred years or so ago . . . until I got to college. LOL.

My nephew was in Iraq . . . and the two recurring themes he always speaks of are how happy their Care Packages made them and how, THROUGH THE INTERNET, they knew MOST Americans supported them and their efforts. If you want to hear a Young Man vent on the MSM, you should . . . but that's another thread. LOL.

Our warriors skillfully and bravely man the frontlines of the battlefield . . . but don't think FOR ONE SECOND that you're not serving your country. You're manning the frontlines of the battle for OUR FUTURE. Teach our future well . . . you're the parents' eyes and ears and you're the third-most important person in our youngsters' lives. We always, always remember our favorite and best teachers . . . I suspect you'll be remembered well.

Again . . . THANKS!!!

Good teachers don't get nearly enough credit for all they do. Oftentimes they're underpaid and thought to be unappreciated. YOU'RE NOT BY THOSE OF US WHO KNOW HOW TRYING YOUR PROFESSION IS!! I had to substitute teach one time when the flu outbreak devastated a local school . . . I was a blabbering idiot after three days. I would even venture to say that GOOD teachers are the first building block that supports our way of life . . . you're that important.

The bad teachers? LOL. Trust me . . . we'll take care of them SOB's one at a time . . . eventually.

The Silent Majority is silent no more.

Why is he stunned when there is always new stories about what goes on in NYC schools. And this is from a guy who was born, raised and educated in the 'old' NYC school system. That's why (among other political reasons) I moved to NC!

Because he's a kid away from home risking his life for his country, and the last thing he's thinking about at mail call is the trouble with our public schools.

If this teacher set this soldier up, as I suspect, he/she needs some personal "tutoring."

"We need to wrest control of elementary and secondary education out of the hands of the COMMUNISTS who run the teachers unions."

How is it you know she didn't act independently of those others you mention?

If we had a situation in a school similar to what happened in Beslan Russia who in the hell do these kids and their teachers expect to come and rescue them? The NEA?

Excellent point!

Coop, you just know that the teacher "guided" their thoughts on this and then allowed it to go forward. There is no excuse for sending these on to soldiers risking their lives.

Some locals to that school district need to initiate an investigation and censure this teacher.

I agree, I am a middle school Social Studies teacher in Upstate NY and my students are VERY supportive of our troops and for the most part our President! My room has pictures of our troops and other patriotic images which the students and parents like and appreciate!

This is a twisted idiot who allowed this to happen. When I sent letters to firehouses in NYC after 9/11 and to Afghanistan I proofed them all-you never know what could end up in one. He should be suspended! Screw the union..ooops, I hope they don't come to take me away!!

I can only imagine how I would have felt had I received this box of junk during Desert Storm. And I was in my mid twenties at the time. I likely wouldn't have been blaming the teacher, but wondering if the kids learned all that bile from home.

And let's face it - although there was Congressional bickering by the usual Leftists, we really had America's public support back then. There's much more doubt this time around, which makes a tough job even tougher. (I realize with a 'Nam vet I'm preaching to the choir on that one!)

You will have to take a number and get in line. What a dirtbag of a teacher
