Why would you ever be a republican?
Thats the question Im most often greeted with when I come out to friends as a conservative. Its a pretty simple answer for most, because I think its right or some such thing. Pundits would have us believe that republicanism is either the cure-all for a world gone painfully awry or a belief held exclusively by greedy fat cats with summer houses on cape cod who drive BMWs. Well, I dont think that my beliefs are going to save the world, Im only a 16-year-old kid, and I drive an inherited Volkswagen. So why would I ever get mixed up in something that my mother views as worse than being in a gang? Its not because its cool, Ill say that much. Republicanism is not what it should be today, however, nor are politics. One cannot make a statement without people assuming that its for a certain, stupid reason. For example, When I state that I am opposed to gay marriage, Im often called a fag-basher and just a straight up bad guy, however, The reason Im opposed to gay marriage licenses granted by the state Is that marriage, or matrimony, is a sacrament of the church, and just as it is not the business of the church to interfere in the proceedings of the state, neither is it the business of the state to interfere with the church. Democrats simply dont see that seperation of church and state goes both ways. Dont see, interesting how those two words can be used to describe most democratic foreign policy. How dont they see that once an ultimatum such as Bring It On is issued by our commander in chief, we cannot back down from it because it would give all requests and demands given by the United States no merit in the eyes of foreign powers, indeed, our demands would become so worthless they would eventually be ignored, and the phrase the united states is all talk would be on the lips of every single Islamic Terrorist, Basque Separatist, and Northern Irish militant. And where are we when we have a military but the entire world thinks that were such massive wussies that we cant use it? Were in a situation where we have to use it, and that would result in casualties far worse than the two or three thousand we are currently suffering in Iraq. The minimum wage is another example of democratic oversight. It would be great if we could force greedy corporations to pay their workers more without consequence, however, such a wage hike must be made in every country otherwise the corporation will simply move overseas. Its quite simple actually, the best possible metaphor is water trickling down a hill, the water will go where there is the least resistance. If you think of that water as businesses, the businesses will go where they are welcomed instead of greeted by people who call them evil and greedy. To say that a business is concerned only with making a profit is an immensely true statement. To say that to have that concern as a business is bad is fundamentally stupid and ignorant, if the business doesnt make a profit, then all of the people who work at that business will be eventually out of jobs. The words dont see were used a lot in this paper. I think its clear to see why. The reason that Im a republican is because the democrats just dont see whats going on and what is wrong with idealism. Ideals are good to have, however its good to realize whats really going on. The republicans are the party of broken dreams and dashed hopes, however, its the party that I choose because I dream of temporary peace, and have given up hoping for a utopia.
Have you tried using a beeber to get rid of all your latent liberal thoughts?
Very nice.
You are wise beyond your years, but please use paragraphs in all future posts.
Okay, I'll buy it. But REAL Republicans write in paragraphs.
Thanks for your comments. I enjoyed reading them. I would encourage you to discount the idea that idealism drives the democrats, unless the quest to intall socialism's failed polices should be labeled as such.
I'm a Republican by default.
When a better choice comes along and can win, I'll be there.
I fear though, we have hit our zenith.
The demographics do not favor conservatism. I know demographics is a bad word around the new PCFR but WTF.
Chris here's your protege'. Introduce the young grasshopper to the art of refining one's thoughts.
Because I get to post on the epic FR site and not get ZOTTED!
That is a big part of it!
You are on the right track.
Actually it is. Churches are organizations of citizens. It is therefore not only their business but their duty to interfere with the business of the state.

Good stuff.
The best Republicans need only one paragraph.
I agree, even if Karl Rove doesn't... :-)
The is NO utopia here on Earth, temporary peace is the best we can ask for.
I was never a full-blown Democrat, but I voted for Gore in 2000.
September 11, 2001 changed my way of thinking forever. It wasn't Bush or the terrorists that did it ... I thought of former Presidents like Clinton and Carter kissing these scumbag's butts and convincing us that THEY were not the problem ... and KNEW we had to change our way of thinking or we were dead.
I just cannot understand how the left can still think like that.
I was going to say the same thing ... paragraphs can be your friend.
