A Way to Save Terri Schiavo
wotan | Feb 18, 2005 | wotan

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:25:20 AM PST by wotan

Here's a way Jeb Bush may be able to save Terry Schiavo: Open an investigation into the possible assault that led to her comatose condition. Have the state pay for her maintenance to "preserve the evidence" and pay for language therapy for her so she can tell us what she knows about how she got into the coma. It struck me that the reason her husband wants her dead might be because he's afraid of what she'll say if she recovers. I don't see how a judge could possibly deny the state the right to preserve evidence of a serious assault.

Hope she's not dead yet.

Nicole (Nikki) Jerger has been appointed Director of External Affairs for Governor Bush. Jerger previously served as Director of External Affairs for the Florida Department of Education. Prior to that, she owned Jerger Communications Inc., a company based in the Tampa Bay area, specializing in public and governmental relations. Jerger is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University. Her appointment is effective immediately. She replaces Brandi Langford who resigned October 15 to pursue a career in the private sector.

I wouldn't. Unless it was my own family member.

What would you do if you were taking care of a disabled family member, and then learned they weren't really related to you after all? Throw them out with the trash?

"NO AUTOPSY or RESUMING OF THE BODY at this point... "

This is from the Pinellas Medical Examiner's website at:
http://www.co.pinellas.fl.us/forensics/faq/faq.htm

Permission for Autopsy? [Top]

By state law, The Medical Examiner is not required to receive permission from next-of-kin for an autopsy. Religious objections to autopsy are handled with counseling on a case by case basis when the rights of the deceased might be compromised by not performing the autopsy.

Also this little tidbit:

When is an Autopsy Necessary? [Top]

A complete autopsy is most often performed in traumatic or violent deaths (gunshot, stab, electrocution, burn, poison, fall, drowning, starvation, suffocation, strangulation, etc.), any police custody death, suspected suicide or drug overdose and in most cases of child death. Investigation or autopsy is necessary in all traumatic deaths regardless of the duration of survival or hospitalization of the injured person if no complete recovery was made after the injury .

There's one person here who is taking care of children in worse condition than Terri. She wishes they would respond as much as Terri.

I believe she said they were adopted. I think you misjudge Freepers. There are plenty here who would take Terri in a heart beep.

Like you I wouldn't volunteer to take Terri unless she was a family member, but even I would, if there was no one else to care for her.

But there are numerous Freepers on Terri's threads, who willingly volunteer their time to take care of others in Terri's condition.

Your question is similar to adoption. I haven't adopted a child, but would if I knew someone who would have an abortion, unless I adopted the child. This question came up years ago for me and I wanted to adopt a child of a friend, but she had the abortion instead.

I think you under estimate the generosity of some of the Freepers here. I admire them very much.

We have had judges who allowed slavery and integration. They allow killing of innocent babies, especially late term abortions.

I'd rather trust myself than some judge who thinks it is perfectly ok to starve a disabled person to death. The court records are available and there are videos available where you can judge for yourself what shape Terri is in. The judge refuses to allow any more videotapes to be made because they proved Terri is not in a vegetative state. You can see Terri respond to her family, especially her mother. You see her laugh at her father's jokes. She is so alive and vibrant.

He refuses to allow anyone to feed Terri by mouth, even though the tube was put there in the first place for the convenience of the nursing staff. The judge refuses to require Michael to follow the law and file the guardianship papers required by law. He refuses to hold Michael in contempt of court when he refuses to show up for depositions over and over again.

There are corrupt judges and sometimes it takes a grassroot campaign to get the judge thrown out of court. Judge Greer has refused to uphold the law on numerous occasions. Please read and educate yourself on this case.

Supercat made the point and posed the question immediatley below:

"Only after Michael met overtly-pro-Euthenasia lawyer(*) did he "remember" that when his wife saw a movie about Karen Ann Quinlan, she expressed a wish not to live "hooked up to tubes". Would a reasonable person given those facts find Michael's testimony about his wife's "expressed wishes" credible?"

TAdams8591 adds: Or analgous and relevant? And answers:

Just a point I thought of last night, someone else may have already mentioned it:

When Karen Ann Quinlan was taken off the VENTILATOR, she began breathing on her own and was fed by a FEEDING TUBE. TEN YEARS LATER SHE DIED A NATURAL DEATH - while on a FEEDING TUBE.

To say removing Terri's FEEDING TUBE is ANALGOUS to taking Karen Ann Quinlan off a VENTILATOR is INCREDIBLY FLAWED and furthermore, a bold faced LIE.

Those kinds of charges, either implied or direct have been leveled at pro-lifers for as long as I can remember and harken back to the days following Roe vs Wade in 1973. In my opionion they are point-the-finger-take-everyones-mind-off-the-real issue type arguments.

While we all have a duty to help those in need, and Families in need, Families also have a primary duty and responsility to take care of their own family members both OLD and YOUNG AND SICK and WELL. Because on some occasions it may be DIFFICULT is no excuse. And if a DISABLED or INFIRMRD person has NO family, then we must bear the ENTIRE responsibility.

I would absolutely take Terri into my home, but that's not the issue. Once we permit the State to decide over life and death, we are all at risk. I firmly believe that each person (from conception through natural death) has an inalienable right to live. Terri cannot speak for herself, and neither do the 4,000 babies that are killed (in the U.S.) each day by abortion. Someone has to speak out for them, and God willing someone will speak out for us in our time of need.

You guys don't like the messenger, but the message is the truth.

I have no problem with the messenger, but it is not the truth. What part of Florida law do you not understand?

765.309 Mercy killing or euthanasia not authorized; suicide distinguished.--

(1) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to condone, authorize, or approve mercy killing or euthanasia, or to permit any affirmative or deliberate act or omission to end life other than to permit the natural process of dying.
