The President had no formal appearances today, but in a 98-0 decision, nominee Michael Chertoff was confirmed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate. President Bush signed a declaration that Ohio is a major disaster area due to a severe ice storm, heavy snow flooding and mudslides (it's still a mess here!). First Lady Laura Bush spoke today at the 2005 Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington.
The Dems are on the run and losing ground. It's a GREAT Day to be a Bushbot, so ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!
I can't claim this as a universal reaction, but when I've met foreigners with heavy, heavy accents, and had to ask them to repeat, to speak more slowly, etc., I've asked them if they are having difficulty understanding me or others in my party. Invariably I have heard, "Not at all! You are all very easy to understand!!"
I spent six hours talking with a chap from Holland and by the time we parted, I was thinking with a Dutch accent that took till the next day to wear off. (Seriously.) It takes a lot of work to concentrate and hear English differently for hours at a time.
And about the filming of Little Round Top.....it was just outside the battlefield area, so the terrain was the same.
The third day battle was filmed nearby too. The monuments, and obvious restrictions made it impossible to film on the actual battlefield.
There are three places I've been that I felt were 'holy ground,' Gretchen.
One was in Ukraine, in a wooded area where Stalin's goons had buried hundreds of innocent Ukrainians in a mass grave outside Kiev, one was at Gettysburg.......especially near the rocks. And the third was Ground Zero. March, 2002.
My kids have been to Dachau and Auschwitz and have said the same thing about them. I can't even imagine the horror of being in those places......

The moral of this story? I guess it's that we never know how many others are holding us up, in victory, in defeat, in good times and bad.
That is a wonderful story and outlook.
