The President had no formal appearances today, but in a 98-0 decision, nominee Michael Chertoff was confirmed as the new Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate. President Bush signed a declaration that Ohio is a major disaster area due to a severe ice storm, heavy snow flooding and mudslides (it's still a mess here!). First Lady Laura Bush spoke today at the 2005 Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington.
The Dems are on the run and losing ground. It's a GREAT Day to be a Bushbot, so ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Sure looks like our new Attorney General. The #1 tag on Dubya's shirt tickles me for some reason. Notice the Secret Service guys at the right side of the photo. They have no numbers attached to their shirts.

I've watched that movie, oh, maybe 30 times or more. I know that scene well!
(Did you know they filmed that scene outside the park because of the monuments on Little Round Top, and the fact that they had to groom the ground so that no one tripped on twigs or stones?)
The last time we went to Gettysburg, our tour guide took us on a little extra trip to where the movie was filmed. VERY neat!

Hi darlin'.. Last night at dinner I had a lady from England sit next to me.. I felt really embarrassed. Her accent was so difficult for me to understand I missed most of what she said. Soft voice & heavy accent. I later found out almost everyone had same experience. would have been nice to really communicate. And I am sure she thought we all had terribly difficult accents too !

In a magazine article today I read that Helen Thomas, the WH reporter, was used to sitting in the front row and as kind of a tradition got to ask the first question at press conferences; now she's relegated to the back of the room and rarely gets to ask questions. There was a photo of her; what a bitter-looking lady. But then, you could tellshe was bitter and combative months and months ago.I was surprised she was still working there since we never see her.
Maybe she got tired of the Pres. not backing down and not being bullied by her.

My hubby had watched the movie about 10 times before I bothered to watch any of it. Part-way through, I said, "wait a minute" and went to my geneology info. Hubby got upset and said "no way..." Sure enough, I had an uncle who was in the 20th Maine. Boy was he jelous!
