Need Intelligent Freeper Input: Guidelines For Our Prominent Freepers
Source: All of us | 02/11/2005 | By Laz

Posted on 02/11/2005 7:19:23 AM PST by Lazamataz

Recently, two Freepers who have some measure of prominance outside the forum have been damaged by liberals and/or Democrats. Jeff Gannon has resigned as a White House reporter, and the individual who goes by the name NCPAC has left his position in Maryland.

J. Gannon wasn't necessarily damaged by anything he posted here, but NCPAC was damaged by the work of a Democrat mole or a Washington Post reporter who revealed his freepmails.

It should be possible to post on this forum with anonymity and to be able to really discuss what's on your mind without worrying about Democrats trying to ruin your professional life, so, in order to help prominent Republicans who may wish to be an active member of Free Republic, I'm formulating some suggestions that I would like to have new users see.

This is what I have so far, as far as guidelines to help our prominent freepers avoid damage in the future:

If You Are A High-Profile Individual In “Real Life”….

If your daily job is such that you are a high-profile individual – as example, an official in a Republican campaign, or a state official in a Republican administration, or a rightward-leaning reporter – please read this article and take these suggestions.
  1. Please don’t reveal your identity. Please don’t drop hints as to who you are. Please don’t succumb to the temptation to show off a little and thusly compromise your anonymity.

  2. Know that there are Democrat operatives (and now, it appears, Legacy Media reporters) who pretend to be loyal conservatives. They will attempt to get you to reveal damaging information about your candidate, your administration, or your media enterprise.

  3. This is for ALL Freepers: Never reveal any personal contact information. Please don’t post (or share in Freepmail) any email accounts, private phone numbers, addresses, or places of employment – unless you really know and trust the person to whom you are revealing these things.

  4. Know that Freepmail can be, and sometimes is, exposed publicly. Please, never say anything in Freepmail that you would not want posted on the public forum. Please, people, add whatever you think might be helpful, and I will post the result as a new article.

I believe this is a fight to the death for this country;

Hear, hear! We mist not, will not, lose.

IMHO...ever since the Rather incident the MSM has been out to take down FR. In fact, it may go back longer than that, but it has been most noticeable since then. These are not trolls, they are infiltrators...we are under seige and at war with the MSM....be alert!

Darks: Thanks for the Ping.

My comment: the blanking blankety blanks! And the people who ultimately will taste the backlash as a result of this kind of activity will be individuals such as myself.

I'm not a prominent individual. But the fact that I *am* a Democrat, and openly so, is now going to be viewed with even more suspicion than it already is.

Will the last non-troll Democrat posting on FR please remember to turn out the lights?

This is definitely not the place to network.

Networking is fine. But perhaps there might be an invitation-only forum for people who are trusted freepers where networking can be done privately?

We should ping existing freepers we know who are prominent.

I just checked, there is no Freeper using the name "prominent."

NEVER put anything in writing that you wouldn't want anyone else to see. Because inevitably, someone will.

Absolutely! I remember when we first all got computers at my office, and some of the workers actually believed they could send any old thing in email and it would remain confidential! LOL!

Thanks, those of us who are trustworthy, assume the best of others.

Sadly, this is quite the wake up call.

Yep.

Tell you what, I would not list being a member of FR on a resume if I was looking for work.

When I was so desperately trying to sell the old house this last Fall , my Real Estate Shark figured out that we were Bush supporters, (signs on the lawn during the election) and I have always wondered if that was part of why we had such trouble with her.

It ain't right, but people DO react!

If people can just shut their mouths and not tell what they should not, it is amazing what can be accomplished.

Ditto that. I never worked in politics, (my ethics are too high ;)), but in the greedy, cutthroat corporate environment (Romper Room compared to Washington), I have seen many people get strangled in the office grape vine by shooting off their mouths.

Where and when might the next event occur?

Keep an eye on the Activism/Chapters sidebar. There are many, many local freeps and chapter gatherings. It's a great way to meet some of the people behind the screen names - and it will change how you use the forum, in addition to building a higher level of trust with a few folks that you meet.

Getting rid of the moderate voices is counter-productive. Many of the trolls and sleepers have personnae as ultra-conseratives. There are long-time moderates here who are known to all of us and I have no problem with trusting them.

However, when some newbie starts spouting every conservative catch phrase in one paragraph, I become a tad suspicious...especially when those types try to get us to make phone calls, send insulting e-mails, etc.

It is helpful to realize that there are people on this forum who WANT to make the forum look like a bunch of creeps, and so post racist or otherwise incendiary posts.

At any rate, another rule should be not to let anyone stampede us into doing something we wouldn't normally do.

Naturally. I have an old truism I use to remind myself of this: "The thief views the world through the eyes of locks and larceny."

Sadly, this is quite the wake up call.

Glad you got the wake up call this way than any other.
