Prince Charles to Marry Camilla Parker Bowles

Thursday, February 10, 2005

LONDON — Prince Charles announced Thursday that he will marry his lover Camilla Parker Bowles after more than 30 years of an on-again, off-again romance that was blamed for destroying the prince's marriage to Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales and Parker Bowles will marry on Friday, April 8, at Windsor Castle, said Clarence House (search), Charles' residence and office.

They will be married in a largely private civil ceremony at the palace, not in a Church of England (search) service.

The April wedding which will not have the pomp and ceremony of the fairy-tale-like 1981 wedding of Diana and Charles, which was broadcast live on television worldwide.

"There will subsequently be a service of prayer and dedication in St. George's Chapel at which the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside," said Clarence House.

The decision on the type of service reflects the fact that both are divorcés, and that Parker Bowles' former husband is still living.

You make some good points.

However succession is not a matter of suitability but of progenity.

Make of it what you will!

The whole saga is a sad, pathetic mess. I feel sorry for the boys and hope they can, or perhaps already have, come to some kind of understanding with their new "mum".

Oh, for pete's sake!!! She's not "their new mum," nor would she ever presume to be. Haven't you ever dealt with any divorced couples...or re-marrieds"

We have no self-esteem unless we are pretty.

Huh?

"The dirty secret about Edward VIII is that his marriage to Wallace Simpson was the excuse used to get rid of him. The real reason was that he was too much of a nazi sympathizer (more so than Kennedy and Linburgh). Some of his conduct during the war was so outrageous that Churchill considered trying to have him prosecuted."

Winston Churchill feared the Windsor's Nazi ties so, he had the King ship them off to Bermuda during the War, and they were never allowed to return. Many biographers state that the D of W had a pact with Hitler to capitulate and after the War would be reinstalled as King.

There are many photos showing the Windsors posing with Hitler.

Charles is not head of the Anglican Church, his mother is.

As far as the Anglican Church is concerned the remarriage for Charles is not a problem because his first wife is no longer living. The problem is with Camilla, whose husband is alive.

They will be married in a Civil Ceremony and then receiving the blessing of the marriage at Saint George's Chapel at Windsor Castle .

Charles can marry Camilla and become King in what is known as a Morganatic marriage in which the children of the marriage are denied succession to the throne. Since Camilla is close to 60, that is not on the table.

Prince Philip is not King, even though married to the Queen , so it doesn't seem unusual.

They are obviously very much in love, all these 35 years, and share much in common. I think is's great that someone in his position chooses a real person, and not some plastic, siliconed young airhead to share his life with.

Thanks for posting the photo of Camilla in the 1960's. I wonder what the boys feel about this?

The Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles arrive in the grand reception room of Windsor Castle, England, Thursday Feb. 10, 2005 after it was announced she is to marry the Prince of Wales on 8 April. Family, friends, and public figures joined together to congratulate the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles on their impending marriage. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh led a host of family tributes, saying the announcement had made them "very happy". (AP Photo/Jim Watson, Pool)

I had thought there were shipped off to the Bahamas. This wouldn;t be the first time the Windsor's loyalty was questioned...during WWI they had to change their dynastic name from "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" to "Windsor".

Because of the close ties between the House of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha and the Hohenzollerns, some wondered how committed the King was to actually defeating Germany. For public relations purposes, in 1917, the House dropped "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" and assumed the name "Windsor" after the castle that had been associated with English royalty for centuries.

This is actually the best statement on the whole thread.

Well, looks like with the new marriage the Prince will be in the market for a new mistress. Wonder if Tiggy is still in the picture?

Their new "stepmom" is the woman their father cheated with while married to their deceased real mom. You may think that's just a normal divorce/remarry situation for the kids but I don't.

Reference was to teenage girls, based on surveys.

"I do see that you do have a point anthough I admit I would be curious to see a picture of Camilla Parker Bowles when she was younger. Personally, I think he should have married her "way back when" when he first fell in love with her, IIRC, they hung around together in their late teens or early 20's. Diana, unfortunatly, was a trophy wife, but to remain true, he should have just married Camilla in the beginning and leave it at that instead of "alley catting" around on Diana."

I agree, but we are dealing with 'traditional' royalty. Charles wasn't alley catting, because alley cats don't discriminate. The only woman he had an affair with was the one he loved. By the time he got back from his long trip, Camilla had already married, believing Charles wouldn't marry her. He needed aires. Diana had several affairs.

I looked for a pic of Camilla when she was younger and couldn't find one. I couldn't even find a quote from her anywhere. Some articles say she was pretty, others say not. To be fair, she was probably an average woman. There isn't much info on her life. One thing I found interesting was her love for fox hunting. She is a fundraiser for an osteoporosis foundation, her mom died of the disease. Her friends and charity co-workers are feircely protective of her. She has never worked a regular job, but is highly educated and is said to be witty and have a good sense of humor.

"And you are a pietistic pissant that can't beyond the humor of the situation."

I don't see anything funny about it. It must have been torture to spend all those years sneaking around, and the repurcussions were extremely painful for all around them.
I would have just married instead of doing what they did, but then again, I am not a royal and don't have their obligations and expectations.

I was not talking of other nations, I was talking of Britain. I was telling you why in Britain it has been historically denied.

I didn't know Britain was the subject. Who knew...

Anyway, thanks for the update.
