America is a Christian nation. To seek a foundation in vapid secularism, in atheism, Islam or any other competing and inadequate worldview would be to betray our founding. No, George Bush did not lie.

Our nation was founded not on Christian principles but on Enlightenment ones

Judeo-Christian values are the bedrock without which Western Civilization and the Age of Reason would have been impossible.

You guys! Please READ the article!!!

DeMar has asked the question as a sarcastic response to Brooke Allen's claim. DeMar clearly chews Allen's seat for making such an assumption....

There is a wonderful book called The Bulletproof George Washington. It's about George Washington during the French-Indian War and how God protected him from being killed during the War.

The author has not read Patrick Henry's speech in total where Jesus Christ is mentioned six times.
50 of our 55 founders were devout Christians, not diests, but Christians.
The fact that we were founded on Biblical Judeo-Christian values was so understood at that time that it didn't need to be explicitly stated so numbskulls like the "Nation" magazine readers could understand it.

There were two locations of the first settlers...the one founded on commerce disappeared after the first winter...the one founded on Christian Principles was the founder of America. ;o)

Rewriting history will not work. America was founded as a Christian Nation.

"if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it."

At least the author states his intention up front.

Long before George W Bush was even a twinkle in his daddy's eye, the history books I was studying from were teaching us that this country was founded upon Christian principles.

The lies are from the liars of the lying left who have been purging all refrence to God from our text books. They are in the proccess of removing the very foundation this nation is founded upon and replacing each rock with sponge cake.

The key issue here is the appeal to the Creator in the Declaration of Independence. The fact is that no one ever had the idea of a Creator except the Jews, and it came to Jefferson by way of Christianity. Some Christians and non-Christians have thought that it could be proved philosophically that the world must have an absolute Origin, but there is no real controversy that the idea of Creation actually came into the world from the Bible.

The Enlightenment came in two forms: hostile to Christianity and parasitic on Christianity. The version of the Enlightenment that appears in the Declaration of Independence is the kind that is parasitic on Christianity. The form of Deism most common among the Founding Fathers was more like a drastically reduced form of Biblical religion than something brand new. The slide from orthodoxy to Unitarianism (which in those days was very Bible-oriented) to Deism was for many people a very gradual one; and even Deists were Bible-readers.

Oh, crap.

Thanks to the short excerpt, I was thinking Demar was saying America was not founded on Christian principles.

The article actually starts out quoting somebody else claiming that. Demar rebuts and says what I was saying, that America IS founded on Christian principles.

I have no doubt that God, and not the soul-less "enlightenment", touched the hearts and minds of the founding fathers. What we do with what we've been blessed with, is a test of our faith in the word of the Lord...
And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.   --Judg. 3:4
