INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida couple whose adopted children told authorities of starvation and physical torture have been captured in Utah, officials said Friday.
Citrus County sheriff's spokeswoman Ronda Evan confirmed that John and Linda Dollar, wanted on felony charges of aggravated child abuse, were captured but she had no other details. Officials planned to explain more at a news conference Friday evening.
The Dollar family included seven adopted children between the ages of 12 and 17. Five of the children have told investigators they were tortured by the couple, subjected to electric shocks, beatings with hammers and having their toenails yanked out with pliers.
Authorities said the abused five had physical injuries to back up their claims and were so severely malnourished that they weighed no more than elementary school children.
"They looked like the photos that we've seen of Auschwitz," said Citrus County Sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney, describing 14-year-old twins, one weighing 36 pounds, the other 38 pounds.
Kill them. Kill them both. Slowly. Very slowly. Make it last hours. Days. Weeks if possible.
You really have to wonder why anyone would do this. In a sick way I can understand molesting them, or murdering them because they were too much trouble and they wanted to enjoy life, but why would anyone who hated kids spend hours of their time and make their main business in life to adopt them, homeschool them, discipline them, and even torture them? It would be more fun to go out and play a game of golf.
About the only motivation I can guess at is some sort of sick religious fanaticism, wanting to bring kids up in a certain sort of way to serve some religious or cultist ideal. And I am NOT normally a critic of religion. But this sounds more like a Jim Jones sort of thing than anything else, at least until we see some other explanation.
Good point, and let's pray for a speedy trial, and swift justice.
Congressman Billybob
Thanks.
That will help me sleep a little better tonight.
You forgot sadism as a motivation.
Some people are just cruel SOBs who enjoy the suffering, pain and misery of others. They inflict suffering for the sheer joy of it.
It's totally alien to normal human beings, but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, if you know what I mean.
I would like 20 minutes with these scumbags. Not only would they not have any finger or toe nails left, they wouldn't have any fingers, or toes.
I don't think state aid for foster children would produce a Lexus, an RV, and a $275,000 home. Aside from the obvious, I bet there's something funky going on, income wise. It doesn't mention the occupation of the Dollars. I wonder if he ran some sort of illegal scam on the internet from his home, or was awarded money in a major personal injury lawsuit or something like that.
Greed. Amusement. Control. Power.
These Dollars are pure evil.

Answered my own question. This says he is a commercial real estate appraiser, but I don't know how much money there is in that.
If they were moving back and forth between FL and Tennessee, I bet a LOT of info on these people will be found in Tennessee.
Punishment reminiscent of Vlad Dracul would be deserving.
augirl and I agree. Wonder what the monthly payment per child was? The article stated John Dollar was a real estate appraiser.
Keep all the money Florida was paying for seven kids, don't feed them, don't give them medical or dental care (they couldn't let normal human beings see these kids) - that would buy lots of extras for this "lovely" couple.
BTW, I'd be stealing all the food I could, if I were a teenager and weighed 38 pounds.
These two creeps should be given the full monty plus a few extra years for good measure, but the Florida Dept for Families and Children shouldn't be allowed to skate freely on this.
Y-e-s! x 2...
I watched the piece on Dayside today and the Social Worker gave a horrific description of what they had done to those children. I prayed they would catch them. But in UTAH? They sure made tracks in a hurry.
