A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 2.4.05
Yahoo, White House | 02/04/05

Posted on 02/04/2005 3:09:55 PM PST by MJY1288

This morning President Bush participated in a discussion about Social Security reform at the Qwest Center Omaha Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. This afternoon he held another discussion about Social Security in Little Rock, Arkansas at the Robinson Center Auditorium. Finally late this afternoon the President attended a third town hall style meeting at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa Florida. At all three events President Bush was greeted by 10's of thousands of supporters, yet the mainstream media spends more time reporting about less than 2 dozen angry Democrats infected with the desease Liberalsim, than they spend on the Presidents message. We wont make that mistake here :-)

Hi Snugs. I saw your greeting a few days ago. How are you? I am getting along fine, much more comfortable than last winter which was my first winter here.

Enjoy your tea! (That's one of the things our daughter loves most about living in England!)

Mr. OH and I are about to go out on a walk and enjoy the sunshine and (relatively) warm temperatures.

When it's been below zero (F), then 45 seems almost like summer! :o)

Boy am I glad to get home to the dose.....Went to take my dad to the dentist on Monday...He came home not feeling well. and ended up in bed for four days with flue like symtom even though he'd had the shot...Stayed to take care of him....When planning on coming home, woke up in the middle of the night sicker than I'd been for ages.....

OTOH We got to watch and discuss the SOU together cheering "W" on and laughing at the dumb dems...so maybe it was worth it.....

That's cool. My church is just finishing it, everyone who wants to, going through one chapter each day, but with the pastor using it for sermons each week. We also got the bulk purchase price ($5.00 / book). I didn't get the workbook and am using a notebook of my own. I am loving it.

I've been very stunned at the shift in Peggy Noonan's recent pieces .. more stunned that she was even capable of such a noticeable swing away from her predictable and typically grand "big picture" view of Pres. Bush's stated values, missions and administration pursuits and her graceful translations of what his words and actions indicate. It's very uncharacteristic, and, for that reason, I find it very odd and disconcerting, but VERY noteworthy.

It was so noticeable, that she publicly indicated how many negative responses she received from her column about Bush's Inauguration speech, and felt compelled to defend her position publicly. That's strange.

This is the loyal Republican, political essayist, cable TV contributor and author, who was so devoted to the re-election of George W. Bush that she took a (most likely, unpaid) sabbatical from all her official professional duties at Opinion Journal and the talkshows to campaign and help the effort.

She was completely immersed in the goings on with all the "old gang" during all the rememberances, memorials and panel discussions about Ronald Reagan's Presidency, after he died. There, she probably re-established contact with some old "party" affiliations and old guard Reagan operatives, associates and friends. She was glowing, tearful, and exuberant in her praise about Reagan, the man, and his gifts, insight and amazing achievements, and rightly so.

Whatever recent information or new input that was implanted in her psyche, or change in her relationship with the White House .. whatever the background reasons behind this new tone that have caused her to wander off the reservation ... I have to deduce that something very impactful has happened that has changed HER. It's troubling, and I just wish we knew what IT or WHO it was. Brent Scowcroft keeps popping into my mind.

I think Peggy's abrupt turnaround has caused a lot of people to wonder what or WHO it was who influenced her to turn against the President.

For myself, the horrific piece on the President's inspired Inaugural address has caused me to lose trust in anything she says, perhaps permanently.

It was not that she disagreed with the President, it was the nature of her attack.......that there was 'too much God' and that he suffered from 'mission inebriation.'

At first I thought I might give her a break for an aberration, due to her own ego, but the more I absorbed what she was really saying, the more I felt it was a fundamental betrayal of core principles that she supposedly shared with the President.

You can't just say, 'oops, I goofed' and make that level of betrayal go away.

Bush's affection for Gonzales is one of the few times when I have been concerned about his emotions overriding his decision making. Especially when I read about some of the stances AG has taken. His elevation of Gonzales didn't sit well with me from the start and I am even more uncomfortable the higher he places him.

Read the responses to her new opinion..He is back? He never went away..WHERE did she go?
It is still pretentious and condescending in my "Texas" opinion.

You had written something to mjy1288 and qualified it by saying that (my bad paraphrase), as a non-American, you felt kind of odd about putting in your oar re our politics, but I wanted to say this. Anyone who devotes as much effort to understanding our politics as you do has a right to offer opinions, ask questions, etc., and you are most welcome here to do so.

Re Peggy Noonan, this, at the very least, applies:

James 1:8 "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

She is definitely holding two conflicting opinions simultaneously.

Cardiologists haven't cleared me to go the Hospital. There are some strange things being brought back from the Middle East, and their concern is that their might as yet be another undiscovered micro-organism of some sort and in my greatly weakend shape, don't want me exposed to it.

I'm chafing at the bit to get back to visiting, and don't for one minute think that I'd ever contract something while visiting our wounded warrior heroes. But I dare not go against any restrictions my Docs have placed on me. I know they mean well and only have my health as their concern.

Sorry I didn't make that clearer.

Yes..........I read that. The President I saw delivering the Inaugural Address is the same man who gave the State of the Union Wednesday night, and the same one he's been every day before or since.

That's one of the best things about him. He is exactly what he says he is, and means exactly what he says he means. He is who he is, and you can count on that.

It's Peggy who's swinging from tree to tree, IMO.

And what is with that Little Big Man line anyway?? I saw that movie. Dustin Hoffman. Indians. What in heaven's name did she mean by that? It was just stuck in there with no relevance to the column whatsoever.

Excellent point.

It makes me wonder if she ever believed either of the two sides she has taken......

A FReeper wrote recently, after Peggy fell off the wagon of reason, either that he conjectured or had heard (rumor) that Peggy was doing all the campaign work and hoping she would be hired as a speechwriter for W. She was not brought in to do this after W was elected; it was suggested that this could be the source of her discontent. I don't know the facts but I find this a credible theory. I mean, how can you explain her stabbing him in the back the way she's doing? She has no grounds for it because Bush hasn't changed.

I knew someone would ask and I haven't noted the sources but I have read that he is pro-choice, and that is the main thing that bothers me. Please correct me if I have misremembered this.

I read your optimistic foreast of the Republican outlook last night. Good analysis. I agree. The dims will churn and nitpick but the people will be instructed and persuaded by President Bush and we will make substantial progress in this new term.
