A FReeper wrote recently, after Peggy fell off the wagon of reason, either that he conjectured or had heard (rumor) that Peggy was doing all the campaign work and hoping she would be hired as a speechwriter for W. She was not brought in to do this after W was elected; it was suggested that this could be the source of her discontent. I don't know the facts but I find this a credible theory. I mean, how can you explain her stabbing him in the back the way she's doing? She has no grounds for it because Bush hasn't changed.

Gretchen I agree with you about Peggy I think it is sour grapes.

She took unpaid leave to work on the campaign was praising GWB as high as she could I think also she was hoping to be taken on as part of the speech team.

I think she was still hoping for some offer after the inauguration speech because on FOX immediately afterwards she was full of praise then a few hours later she pulled it apart with the "to much God comments". Something must have been said to her about that time maybe something was leaked to her between these 2 comments that no offer was going to be made.

IMHO she is now discontented and feels scorned.

I just don't see that as very likely, GM. She's already been a White House speechwriter, and has evolved into a best-selling author, TV political commentator and landed herself a plum spot at the Wall Street Journal's Opinion Journal. As I see it, for example, David Frum was a WH speechwriter, and is now trying to expand his public persona and career as an author and political commentator on cable. I see the White House speechwriting spot as a launching point..just don't see her going back to that invisible a role.

All that said, I *can* fathom that she might have wanted to be a visible part of the administration in some prestigious post .. that's possible. But, having read so many of her pieces and getting some insight into her general makeup and deeply religious nature, I never sensed pettiness, snarkiness or retribution in her. Odd as it would be given her experience, it could be external input messing up her perspective, and uncharacteristic behavior can also sometimes be attributable to medication. So, because I've held her in such high regard, I guess I'm still troubled and curious.
