A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 2.4.05
Yahoo, White House | 02/04/05

Posted on 02/04/2005 3:09:55 PM PST by MJY1288

This morning President Bush participated in a discussion about Social Security reform at the Qwest Center Omaha Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. This afternoon he held another discussion about Social Security in Little Rock, Arkansas at the Robinson Center Auditorium. Finally late this afternoon the President attended a third town hall style meeting at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa Florida. At all three events President Bush was greeted by 10's of thousands of supporters, yet the mainstream media spends more time reporting about less than 2 dozen angry Democrats infected with the desease Liberalsim, than they spend on the Presidents message. We wont make that mistake here :-)

Prayer heavenward for your son - in prep for this summer's internship. <><

How do you DO it?

I know you're very athletic, as are your daughters. Any advice or encouragement you could impart to me, a total wussie chick wondering aloud WHY in heaven's name she wouldn't rather arrange flowers?!

**However, she defended GW passionately most of the time when she was on with Crissy Matthews during the first 4 years. **

That's true.

Fat Tuesday is then the same as Pancake Day when you use up your ingredients before Lent. Nowadays for the majority of people just a bit of fun of course as homemom said proper name Shrove Tuesday. We have pancakes races and competitions for tossing pancakes in the UK.

Some people even non religious people do decide to give up something for lent such as drinking alcohol or smoking etc. but really the Shrove Tuesday and lent element has mainly died out.

If I were a grandma I would probably be "dangerous" too! But I am not, YET! So, I don't fully understand the "grandma" thing. I watch my friends who were perfectly lucid adults totally change into piles of mush when they have a grandchild! I keep saying I won't be like them, but........!!!!

Sorry for being ignorant is the fact you have not been cleared to Walter Reed because of security or is because of your illness?

Don't wish to appear nosey but I was just interested.

The funny part about these pretenders is that, having been a "pingee" to the DUmmie FUnnies, I just hear PJ's remarks to them in my head. Just LAUGH at them, never take anything they say seriously; it would drive them nuts or even better, back to the DUmpster, where they belong!

Her name is Aziza. Both her first and last names I believe are entirely unique to our family. We all have names that start or end with A or Z.

Well, sports medicine isn't so dangerous...........why don't you steer her in that direction? :o)

Seriously, though, we tried to raise our children with deep roots, in their faith in the Lord, in a strong family, in church and friends........and also wings, to go where God is leading them.

So God has led our eldest to study abroad, and probably live abroad as a professor/missionary, our next to foreign service as a diplomat/missionary, our next to the Armed Forces as a soldier/missionary, and our youngest to California (of all places!!), to study and become a missionary/missionary.

We are blessed beyond measure, but I'm not going to kid you and say it's easy. The hardest thing I ever do is let my beloved babies do these things. I can still feel their warmth and softness, hear their calm breathing, and smell their tiny powdered little bodies sleeping on my shoulder.

Wish I could help you more, but it never gets easier. You just have to trust that God is loving, and sovereign, and leave them in His hands.

Psycho girl will ALWAYS be your baby.......the one that God allowed you to raise to leave you and be on her own..........as a high school sports trainer right here in the good old USA. ;o)

my observation is that most parties at bars as well as the participants for Fat Tuesday are not on ANY religious bend.. pure Party & more party. I went to a few & found them to be a bit much for even my open minded thoughts

I was raised a Baptist, and we didn't do anything for Lent, OR for Fat Tuesday, but now in the Presbyterian church we have an Ash Wednesday service, and observe Lent, but do nothing with "Mardi Gras."

I have always thought of Mardi Gras as being from New Orleans I suppose direct translation is something like Grand Tuesday.

I was raised in an Evangelical Church where we did not actually celebrate any of the church calendar but because the majority of our junior schools are Church of England you get to celebrate them by special services or a visit by your local Vicar or even a trip to the Church that your particular school is linked to. So I am familiar with Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Maudy Thursday where the Queen gives out special coins each year.

Of more recent times because my church has mixed with others more at large events such as Spring Harvest more attention to this festivals is made though not officially they would be taught more and some people would actually decide to give something up for Lent which may not be necessarily something you eat but could be something you do.

Blessings to you for your heart-felt words and wise encouragement.

Thank you so very much, Mrs. Tiggywinkle. The encouragement is what's important, and I'm glad you understood.

What a beautiful little girl, "Justa." I don't believe it's possible to "spoil" a kid by giving them too much of the right kind of love.

Mardi Gras is celebrated in New Orleans because it was settled by the French, but it is basically the same thing, only wilder and crazier.

We didn't observe any part of the church year either, and as I have grown older, I think it's one of the weaknesses of the iconoclastic churches.

In an attempt to reform, they threw out every symbol and tradition in the high church, which may have been throwing the baby out with the bath water (do you have that expression?).

And as the Evangelical movement has gotten more and more irreverent in an attempt to be 'culturally relevant', I find the high church tradition more and more appealing.......assuming, of course, that it is done out of real faith in Christ, and the working of the Holy Spirit and not tradition only.

I think you are right it is a good idea to celebrate the various events in the Church Calender it is a chance to get non believers to join us whether it be for a special Mothering Sunday service or a coffee and mince pie whilst listening to carols by candlelight. The main thing is as you say is it spirit lead rather than just ritual.

I am familiar with the term throwing the baby out with the bath water I have always thought of it as a very English saying. That is one thing that has surprised me since finding the FR that many of the sayings and expressions I thought were so English that Americans would find trouble in understanding I have found they are in common use in the States as well. Also I always thought American humour was very different to English but except with a few exceptions I have found it again to be very similar.

Fortunately the Evangelical movement in England as a whole has not gone to far in trying to be be relevant though unfortunately some Baptist and Methodist churches have; the independant ones though seem to still preach Christ crucified and redemption by faith rather than works. What has increased especially in the Evangelical movement has been the charismatic movement which to some evangelicals has caused great concern. Myself feel all things in moderation here. IMHO the charismatics have bought a great deal of love and fellowship but I also have some reservations in some of their extreme views though as a general rule I think the Evangelical Movement is strengthened by them.

Sorry if that was a bit heavy - must go and get tea now (mushroom quiche, salad and mashed potato).

God Bless you

Eleanor
