But by courting conservative blacks in battleground states reaching out through programs such as the president's faith-based initiative GOP organizers believe they made the difference that secured Bush's victory in 2004. In Ohio, for instance, a concerted effort increased black support for Bush from 9% in 2000 to 16% in 2004, providing a cushion that allowed the president to win the pivotal state outright on election night. The Black Contract With America will be unveiled by Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr., a registered Democrat from suburban Washington who backed Bush in 2004 after voting against him four years earlier. He was drawn, he said, to the GOP's social conservatism that he thought reflected the true values of black churches.

This isn't about Harold Ford, Jr. We already know that you don't like him.
What this is about is the fact that no matter how loyal American blacks are to the Democrats, blacks still won't even get nominated, much less approved, for senior Democrat Party positions.
It's another point that must be highlighted.
What does this have to do with the NAACP?
If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Yes! That's what we need, a headline grabber. Private SS accounts, School Choice, Conservative Social Values, Elimination of means tested Social Spending - that is a Contract worth fighting for.
Kind of touchy this morning, aren't you?
No, I'm not actually. It's a fine morning. I'm just telling it like it is.
Blacks will never leave the liberal plantation. On this plantation they get the slop fed to them by their liberal slaveowners who feed them daily with race baiting propaganda, and freebies like affirmative action and welfare. I would love to be wrong and watch blacks become free thinkers but if blacks by in large cant support the ideals of their faith (abortion and homosexuality is wrong) why does anyone think they will change their party affiliation. Republicans should not pander to blacks any longer (or any other group) - stand for truth and freedom and allow others to join.
Here in the Land of Lincoln, Dr. Alan Keyes' main project is in the black Chicago churches.
Great progress is being made.
His FR detractors can kiss my patootie.
Republican efforts in this area have to be REAL. It is imperitive that we aren't offering nothing but an alternate plantation instead of true freedom.
That's all I have to say right now. Off to a meeting...
"You absolutely correct. If GW Bush and the Pubbies can win another 9% of the Black vote, the Democrat Party will be destroyed in 2006. I actually believe we can rach about 25% of the Black vote by 2008. Lots happening in the Black community that favors the GOP!!!"
Your crazy - I hope Im wrong and your right but come on blacks pretend to be Christian and vote for candidates who are pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, etc... Blacks are not going to leave a party which continues to pander to them and supports their racists views against America (especially white America). Liberals have a strangle hold on blacks for many reasons - race baiting, welfare entrapment, hate affiliation - blacks are comfortable in this easy chair and quite frankly I dont ever see the possibility of more than 15% ever leaving the liberal slave plantation. But I would LOVE to be wrong.
"Republicans introduced and passed in the House and Senate the 1965 Civil Rights Act; Democrats filibustered against it."
"...Democrats, led by Robert Byrd (D-WVa), filibustered against it."
When??? Did I miss the date in the article?
Yep. And when they complain, somebody get$ a token advi$er $pot a la Je$$e Jack$son with the Kerry campaign. $ellout$, the "leaders" are. Thankfully, times are a changing as per this article...
This is promising, hopeful, enlightening!
Get ready to be wrong. I would agree with you if Blacks had remained static, and many of them have, especially the uneducated, lower class, broken family groups. But....the sea is changing, and many of the building middle class and young educated Blacks see their way to prosperity and the American dream is through assimilation into the general, free enterprise American society.
You should also take note that Hispanics have passed Blacks and are now the largest minority group in the USA. Hispanics are smart enough to realize that you don't ever, ever, put all your political eggs in one basket, as do Asians. Couple these two minority groups together, and the Black vote becomes less meaningful all the time. I could go on and on with the changing tide, but I will conclude by saying, honestly, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP have no political power whatsoever in current Washington, DC, and won't have it for a very long time.
Average Blacks see this, and are beginning to get the picture that they have been had by the leaders, and certainly by the Democrat "Slave" Party. Change is coming!!! How quickly remains to be seen. If Black folk don't change their political loyalty, they will forever remain chained to and in their Black communities, and worse, chained to the bottom of the economic and opportunity totem pole where the Democrat Party has kept them for over fifty years. Please keep in mind that GW Bush picked up enough increased Black votes in Florida and Ohio, enough to give him victories in those crucial states!!
The truth will set you free!
I agree with the items in the proposed contract, but they are good fer all Americans, not just Black Americans, imho. I'm sorta torn on this issue...yes, we want to attract more Black Americans to conservatism, but do we do it by treating them as a unique sub-population?!
FReegards...MUD
Nice list. But don't forget what the dems are trying to do to Ken Blackwell here in Ohio.
Aren't the 11% or 16% figures on black support from those same discredited exit polls that told us Kerry was winning? I don't doubt Bush's support has risen a good deal among blacks, I just think the source of the numbers is probably no good.
What do you think of Ford?
SO, because we will never win the MAJORITY of Blacks, does that mean that we, as conservatives should just "give up, and concede the black voting block, to the DUmmies"? I for one do NOT think we should.
BTW-- 25% of the black vote, would be a NUCLEAR ATTACK on the dems, as far as their ability to win, or even steal elections goes. AND, it is a goal, that I think, can be reached, with a little effort.
Back in July, we here in Ohio had been told, that "you guys can never get a marriage protection ammendment, on the books, in your state". Did we all just give up, and cry"woe is me"? NO!! I for one, passed around one of those petetions, and LOOK WHAT THAT RESULTED IN, it brought more voters to the conservative side here in Ohio-- Maybe even, it gave us that little cushion, we ended up with.
