Ads Urge a Rethinking of Abortion

WASHINGTON, D.C., JAN. 27, 2005 (Zenit.org).- An advertising campaign aimed at dispelling myths about abortion is under way.

The U.S. bishops' Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities has launched the campaign in the Washington metropolitan area and in national news media outlets.

The campaign, called the Second Look Project, presents basic facts about legal abortion that much of the public does not understand. The program encourages people to take a "second look" at their views on abortion.

"Three decades after Roe v. Wade, many people still do not understand basic facts about legal abortion -- like the fact that abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy," said Cathy Cleaver Ruse, spokeswoman for the secretariat.

"Recent polls showing support for Roe v. Wade describe Roe as the decision which legalized abortion in the first 3 months of pregnancy, a flagrant distortion of the truth," said Ruse. "Roe created an unlimited 'right' to abortion and most people think an unlimited right to abortion is wrong."

More than 500 transit advertisements will appear on Metro trains and buses in the Washington area this month and next. Ads have also begun appearing in selected publications.

The ads refer viewers to a Web site, www.secondlookproject.org

Stats  There are 1.31 million abortions in the U.S. each year.

Attention Bishops: If you factor all those who are aborted by the In-Vitro Fertilization procedures conducted in fertility clinics where 20 or more babies are created at once in a dish or tube and where at least 3 or more babies are implanted at each procedure and the more than 400,000 babies imprisoned in Gulags  (on ice in these fertility clinics), the states who underreport abortion statistics,   those who use drugs and herbs, starvation, etc. the amount is much, much higher than 1.31 million.

Do most states allow partial-birth abortion?

I think they all do, as it appears that abortion is legal at any stage.

Partial birth abortion was invented to harvest body parts. Instead of injecting a strong saline solution into the amniotic fluid and killing the baby, then it being still-born, the mother is talked into allowing the infant to be used for medical science. There is big business for harvested parts. I guess this makes the mother feel better, or something. Probably makes her feel that something good can come out of something she deems bad. I think that most people today are so inundated with violence and gore from the movie industry that they can no longer appreciate they are taking a human life...nor do they care. It no longer matters that this is an innocent life that is being sacrificed for the acts of others. Only a very small percentage of abortions are performed for rape...less than 1%. I would venture to say that those who later regret having had an abortion are still in the minority. Our whole society has come to view rights and vice as more important than life, righteousness, honesty, integrity, etc. We are slipping down the slope to destruction at a terrifyingly fast speed! It is no longer good enough to compare ourselves to other countries and say that with all our warts we are still better than any other country. We reek with an unpleasant aroma to the One whose favor we should be seeking.

Technically, that's incorrect. Roe combined with Doe, however, did create exactly what she described. Small point, net effect is the same.

It's not clear. There are states like Missouri, that have faithfully passed legislation and voter-passed referrendums only to have them struck down by a judge in every single case, only to pass more legislation and initiatives and have them struck down. But it's available within driving distance. So even though St. Louis lacks a late term abortion facility, E. St. Louis, Ill., does have one...

So the bishops go to all the expense of doing this ad campaign (finally), but then refer to the child as "it"? (Look at the second poster's bullet points.) Why??

I first them the day of the March for Life. I was glad to see them. Last year, the "Silent No More" group put up ads on the Metro, and I saw that some of them were defaced ("tolerant" Left shows its true colors again).

Nebraska tried to ban partial birth abortions.

The Supreme Court, however, told Nebraska that they could not do so.

So, yes, most states do allow partial birth abortions.

But not because they necessarily want to.

"There are 1.31 million abortions in the U.S. each year."

Or, put another way:

There are 35,616 abortions every day.

1,484 every hour.

Nearly 25 every minute. Of Every Hour. Of Every Day.
