Though the liberals of the party have a record of keeping Republicans in the wilderness for years at a time, they claim they are best equipped to "save" the GOP from disaster at the hands of "the far right." Judging by Whitman's writings, "the far right" includes any successful Republican official who runs and wins on conservative principles.

California is paying deeply for such beliefs.

All you need to know about "moderate Republicans" is that Jim Jeffords used to call himself one, and yesterday the recast "independent" voted against Dr. Rice's confirmation.

I used to think Jeffords was an idiot; now I'm not so sure.

Conservatives are the deep water of the Republican party.
"Moderates" (otherwise known as people with no conviction) are the shallow water that dries up when things get hot.

Fortunately for us, Liberals are the deep water of the Democrat Cesspool and the "Moderates" are starting to smell the stench over there and come to us for a bath. We just have to be sure not to let them dirty us up in the process.

IMO us moderates are the only ones capable of rational thought. Both the left and right extremes are intellectually crippled by ideology.

Whitman mistitled her book...instead of "It's my party too" she should have borrowed the title from one of the great R&R hits...Lesley Gore's "It's My Party ( and I'll cry if I want to)"

So called moderate Whitman is for partial birth abortion, gay marriage, and no parental notification of abortions for minors.

The list of her dirty deeds is long and includes stabbing Bob Grant, Schundler, and her good friend Steve Forbes.

She bought loyalty from Dubya with support all the way back to his run for governor in Texas.

Hopefully, Dubya feels he has repaid his debt to Witless.

So Whitman's appointments were responsible for the Torricelli-Lautenberg switch? Well, well. This I did not know. The reason we lack another Senate seat is due to those justices making law.

Conservative Republican consultant Craig Shirley says he is inviting Whitman to be his guest at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in late February. Shirley says Whitman can then "learn why the GOP now controls the White House, the U.S. House and Senate and most governorships in the country."

ROFL Nice move.

When she was elected in 1993, the Republicans in 1991 had been swept into total veto-proof control of the Legislature: 27 to 13 in the Senate, 58-22 in the House. After the 2001 elections – the first opportunity the voters had for a referendum on eight years of "moderate" GOP rule (including Whitman's seven years) – the Democrats won control of the House, 44-36, and secured a 20-20 tie in the Senate.

Apparently, Whitman played a vital role in the positive fortunes of the Democrat Party. No wonder the citizens of New Jersey have been so relunctant to return to Republicans after her example.

Now comes Christie Whitman with a book titled "It's My Party Too," a tome that urges "radical moderates" to wage a fight to take back the party from conservatives.

Sorry, Christie. You were a pathetic excuse for a governor and your RINO wing of the GOP in NJ was instrumental in making sure that brilliant conservative Bret Schundler was defeated by "gay American" Little Jimmy McSkeevey in 2001. I will NEVER, EVER vote for another RINO. They simply can not be trusted.

Moderate Republicans or Mainstream Republican's as they're chartered in my state are more dangerous than liberals. At least with liberals you know what to expect from them.

Want to see how much of a failure Mainstream Republican's policies are, just take a look at Washington State politics.

I just wish the PDC woulda bankrupted these loosers. The mainstreamers have done hit pieces on conservative candidates that is right out of the liberals handbooks, they've even endorsed dims over conservative Republican's in the past.

Arlen Specter is also a "moderate republican." I've got a better name for them. Socialists.

I've learned from reading these threads that I am a RINO because I have somewhat differing views (though not much different) on abortion, and - I admit - no definite opinion on gay marriage as of yet.

I do not agree with this RINO (Republican in Name Only). That doesn't make any sense.

Still and all, I am Republican (moderate if one wants to call it) and bristle at the notion that I - as a moderate if one must - muddy the waters for the Republican party.

What about him? He's pro-abortion. Pro-gay. Pro-illegal immigration. Anti-gun. Does that sound like a conservative Republican to you?

I don't understand how any one voting Republican would be for partial birth abortion. Are you sure she supports partial birth abortion?

"Moderates" (otherwise known as people with no conviction) are the shallow water that dries up when things get hot.

This is a perfect example of a lack of tollerance. Either a person has to agree with everything YOU decide is "Conservative" or they are people with no conviction?

This lack of tollerance (a bonified leftist trait) only goes to show that some on the far right have moved so far to the right .. they are now on the left!

Exactly, so it'll be interesting to see whether he chooses to run for Senate against hillary or try his hand in the 08 primaries.

Moderate Republicans are the best choice to run in highly liberal strongholds and conservative Republicans are the best choice to run in traditional conservative strongholds.

Neither is right or wrong all of the time, but they should all work together to get the major platform agenda achieved in increments. They should not spend their time condemning Sponge Bob Square or Kid Rock, for such issues are not beneficial for the far right or moderates, but only serve to defame the entire party as a bunch of nannies.
