Georgia Flag Vote update
Southern Heritage PAC ^ | Jan 25 | SHPAC

Posted on 01/27/2005 10:15:33 AM PST by DixieOklahoma

Support Georgia's right to have a REAL vote on their state flag... The only vote issued did not include the flag that sparked all the controversay in the first place!.

In addition, only 6% of registered voters showed up at the polls, BECAUSE the real Georgia state flag wasn't included in the referendum!!

There is currently a bill that has just been filed with the Georgia State House to allow the real flag to be included in a statewide vote, as well as the current flag.

No matter your feeling on the flag personally... There SHOULD BE a vote on this state flag. After all it is the people of the state of georgia that the flag represents! Right is right, and the people should have a vote on their stolen state flag.

RINO governor (the liar) Perdue, who will be defeated in his re election attempt in 2006, has vowed that this bill will be killed in comittee.

Lets see that that doesn't happen:

Your right, and the reb flag lost period. The flag debate is over in everyone's mind except for the flagers.

Historical revisionism is hardly unique to the left. The Georgia flag that this thread started with didn't exist until 1955, but DixieOklahoma has somehow morphed this flag into the "real" Georgia flag.

That parts of the Maryland state flag may have been used by some to demonstrate their allegiance to the confederacy doesn't alter the fact that the 2 parts of the flag are family crests. I think our flag is safe in that regard.

It's when they go after our state sport and try to replace that...just kidding. I actually think lacrosse makes more sense than jousting.

I'm sorry deaconjim. My bad.

It's just when I see those confederate flags (and I'm born and raised in the South 47 years) I know that the majority of those who insist on waiving it are doing so in the wrong spirit (I've met many of them). I feel it gives us all a bad rap. It's not in my spirit to name call. I am truly sorry.

Not really. The current flag looks like the first national. Shhhhh..... don't tell the liberals.

The "reb flag" as you call it, never lost because the people never had a chance to vote for it. Scalawag Gov. Barnes changed the flag with a late night back room deal and hoped it would just blow over. It did not. He lost his job and Perdue won based on the flag, despite a huge monetary advantage for Barnes. (Barnes fancied himself a possible presidential contender, remember.) Purdue campaigned on giving the people a vote on the flag. A flag resolution passed both Houses of the Georgia Legislature that would have allowed a vote on the ugly Barnes blue flag and the real flag. When the bills went to committee for reconciliation, a third option emerged. It was a totally new design, the current flag. Then what emerged was a resolution that included only the Barnes' flag and the new flag. It did not include the '56 flag. It didn't include it because everyone knows it would have won. The PC and money before honor crowd won out over the will of the Georgia people. Then Sonny had the nerve to go around Georgia saying he fulfilled his campaign promise by giving the people a vote. That is a joke and everyone knows it.

Sprite518, what part of that sorry cowardly story could you possibly think was OK? Are you sure you want to throw your hat in the ring with the PC clan? If so, what exactly about yourself do you consider conservative. You sure aren't conserving heritage and the honorable cause of secession.

Then the old flag will fail. So why not include it in the vote?

What about those pictures embarrass you? That some people have the courage of their convictions and are willing to stand up for them in the face of a relentless assault from the PC goon squad, and you are not. Those pictures make me swell with pride that I am a Georgian. Perdue and his lying, scalawag kind are what embarrass me.

I don't advocate sitting out an election. I was responding to dmz's point about the flag.

Howdy, Curly!

There is some a-hole of a state Delegate from PG County that proposes a bill every legislative session to change the state song. Each try is a little different and he has not come anywhere near succeeding yet, but he keeps trying and keeps gaining more and more support. However, I am also waiting for the ACLU to start filing lawsuits over our state flag and the bottony cross flagpole topper.

I'm sorry, I meant some others in this thread who were talking about "punishing" Purdue over the flag.

What I don't get is that the current flag does have Confederate symbols on it, though not the one that is familiar to most people. How does that flag "dishonor" your ancestors?

It's only safe because the idiots who want revisionism aren't knowledgeable enough to know what the flag stands for.

This is all part of a larger movement to ban all things Confederate and to revise history so as to vilify those who fought for the south. Many of these people don't couldn't even tell you when the War started and don't even know that there were Union slave states. They believe that the Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves, and they might even believe that General William T. Sherman (if they even recognize the name) was a kind-hearted soul who loved black people.

I actually think lacrosse makes more sense than jousting.

On this we agree entirely. Although I'm a hockey player, lacrosse should truly be the state sport. Other than Medieval Times at Arundel Mills and maybe the Renaissance Festival, does anyone joust in Maryland anymore?

Ask Rep. Terry Coleman (D-Eastman) that question. He was the one that stopped it from being there.

BTW --- the pre-1956 flag was made to resemble the 1st National Flag.

PG County ...... not surprising. See dmz, it has started already!

yup, minus the stars and extending the blue canton all the way to the bottom of the flag.

Yes it has Confederate significance, but the fact that it was an acceptable alternative to the PC knuckleheads, means it is not acceptable to me. They know good and well that getting rid of the battle flag was a symbolic victory for them. Therefore a defeat, a slap in the face, to me and all the other good flaggers out there.

But if you punish Purdue for not putting up the battle flag, then you are helping those very same people who would love to have a Democrat in the state house again. It is a compromise flag, but you can't always get what you want.
