The "reb flag" as you call it, never lost because the people never had a chance to vote for it. Scalawag Gov. Barnes changed the flag with a late night back room deal and hoped it would just blow over. It did not. He lost his job and Perdue won based on the flag, despite a huge monetary advantage for Barnes. (Barnes fancied himself a possible presidential contender, remember.) Purdue campaigned on giving the people a vote on the flag. A flag resolution passed both Houses of the Georgia Legislature that would have allowed a vote on the ugly Barnes blue flag and the real flag. When the bills went to committee for reconciliation, a third option emerged. It was a totally new design, the current flag. Then what emerged was a resolution that included only the Barnes' flag and the new flag. It did not include the '56 flag. It didn't include it because everyone knows it would have won. The PC and money before honor crowd won out over the will of the Georgia people. Then Sonny had the nerve to go around Georgia saying he fulfilled his campaign promise by giving the people a vote. That is a joke and everyone knows it.
Sprite518, what part of that sorry cowardly story could you possibly think was OK? Are you sure you want to throw your hat in the ring with the PC clan? If so, what exactly about yourself do you consider conservative. You sure aren't conserving heritage and the honorable cause of secession.

What I don't get is that the current flag does have Confederate symbols on it, though not the one that is familiar to most people. How does that flag "dishonor" your ancestors?

Your right on the first part. My bad. Moreover, I agree that there was not a fair vote on this issue. Nevertheless, what are you going to vote for a Rat?
I do not know one politician that I agree with 100 percent of the time. The closest was maybe Ronald Reagan? I just try to elect which ever one thinks more like me on the current issues.
I am far from the PC clan. This flag you love so much is also embarrassed by the KKK! Furthermore, why do you think it was put on the Georgia flag in 1956? The flag divides, and does not unite Georgians. It hurts business, and future business in this state. Finally its a flag that wanted to split the United States. You know the country that has given us the greatest standard of living in the world????
When you said,
"If so, what exactly about yourself do you consider conservative. You sure aren't conserving heritage and the honorable cause of secession."
You ask who? How about the Founding Fathers? You know guys like George Washington, and the men who signed the Declaration of Independence, and the US Constitution. I do not love the guys that wanted to split the greatest country on Earth that God has given us.

He lost his job and Perdue won based on the flagAlthough the mainstream media would like you to think so, that's really not true.
King Roy spent 4 years alienating about every group in Georgia possible, not to mention the state has been voting GOP in national elections for years, and it was only a matter of time before Republicans began winning state elections.
Roy Barnes even went to the state wide GAE meeting and told the teachers there he didn't need teachers' votes to win. After they went back and told their schools that, I don't think King Roy got very many votes from teachers or their families.
The current flag is better than the 1956 flag or any since then, and Georgia has many more pressing issues than the flag to worry about.
These people who say they'll vote against Perdue solely based on the flag issue must not be all that conservative...and if they think the flag is important enough to base their entire vote on, I wonder about their intelligence and judgement too.
