He lost his job and Perdue won based on the flag

Although the mainstream media would like you to think so, that's really not true.

King Roy spent 4 years alienating about every group in Georgia possible, not to mention the state has been voting GOP in national elections for years, and it was only a matter of time before Republicans began winning state elections.

Roy Barnes even went to the state wide GAE meeting and told the teachers there he didn't need teachers' votes to win. After they went back and told their schools that, I don't think King Roy got very many votes from teachers or their families.

The current flag is better than the 1956 flag or any since then, and Georgia has many more pressing issues than the flag to worry about.

These people who say they'll vote against Perdue solely based on the flag issue must not be all that conservative...and if they think the flag is important enough to base their entire vote on, I wonder about their intelligence and judgement too.

I agree the teachers played a large role as well. Esp. since they are a group he could normally have counted on for large numbers. But see my post at 110 which addresses your point exactly.

The fact that King Roy was wallowing in money, felt he had the election in the bag, and was already preparing his run for President, illustrate the power of the flag. That is why Purdue's election was such an upset. The flag issue creeped up on everyone. BTW, Roy, who is a relatively "conservative" Democrat, changed the flag in preparation for his presidential run. To remove it as an issue and to beef up his liberal bona fides.

That was the tipping point for his loss. And he did alienate EVERYONE in the state. Then expected to still win. Smarmy king roy.
