I had a feeling that Passion would get a nod for cinematography. I didn't think they could snub that...the movie was too beautifully done. Music score is nice to see as well. Make-up was a complete surprise.
Nothing for TEAM AMERICA???? I guess we will have to wait for the MTV awards to see those.

"Maria Full of Grace" was, to my mind, little better than a graduate student film. The story was full of holes, the acting and direction uninspired and the theme was a celebration of moral relativism. Production values were C+ at best.
Art-house afficianados climbed all over it because it showed a segment of the human experience that impacts us (illegal immigration and life in the countries from which people flee) but that we cannot experience personally. I'm glad to see film coming out of any unfamiliar corner but I was disappointed and less than impressed by this one.

I found it pretty gripping. It's a case of not trying to do too much...but achieving everything you set out to do.

Mary Mapes was a highly regraded, multi award winning producer of news. 'Nuf said.

With all the misery and suffering in the world, how can Hollywood hold its annual self-celibratory extravaganza. Better to cancel it and send the money to the tsunami victims. That's what ther libs said about the Inauguration parties. Don't copy them.

does the fact that they were sued for copying other scripts count? Ever heard of Dark Lady of the Sonnets?

Yeh and Sideways is perverted, Million Dollar Baby supports euthanasia, and the Aviator showcases Leo.
To: Borges
No bad acting....hated that movie.
To: Diva Betsy Ross
I am a film maker and writer. I am very familiar with that issue. But, since Dark Lady was never produced and you could not therefore have seen it, how does that factor into your assessment of SIL as unoriginal? What films that you've seen did it copy? There must be some.
And a note on how these Hollywood concept theft things work...If even only one line is the same in both scripts the case is won. A playwrite successfully sued Spielberg for ET. Her one act play contained the line "ET phone home". Art Buchwald won $600k from the producers of Eddie Murphy's Coming to America on the basis of a one line idea he had written ten years earlier. The line was (paraphrase) Young African Prince comes to New York.

Nope- exactly the same. Both are industries who give themselves awards so that they may claim they are award winning artists and woo you. The same exact thing.

I've been pointing out for months now that Moore is not a member of the Hollywood crowd...he's an oustider who they are undoubteldly sick of.He's a useful idiot who's outlived his usefulness.
I have one word for ya, Moore: Sucker!

I would suggest that Lifetime for Women would have passed on the script as being too obvious. And, the film, while striving to make a statement, delivers a message of absolute moral relativism and utter selfishness. I don't doubt that there are folks within ten miles of where I'm sitting who have faced such dilemmas but I fail to see anything heroic (in any sense of that word) in Maria's choices.

The acadamy just snubbed one of the best motion pictures ever filmed by their token nominations for the
Passion of The Christ. The picture should without doubt have had nominations for best film, best male and female actors, best supporting actors, best direction, best set and costume, as well as the cinematography that was nominated. No film in its time has so moved so many people with such an enormous impact on their lives through the act of film making as the POTC did and to not be recognized for it shows the contempt and bias of those that are allowed to vote for the nominations. The oscar is as hollow and shallow and lifeless as those empty and souless people that vote and pick the nominations.
Nearly every Christian on the planet will be watching the Passion over and over again every year during lent or Holy Week just before Easter. The movie is so powerful that faithful people can barely stand to watch the movie again because of the emotion it evokes and have chosen to watch it again only during a spiritual time such as lent. Most Catholics I know purchased the DVD when it came out and have not watched it becuase they are waiting to view it again on Good Friday. The film has such emotion and power and the timing of the awards just prior to Holy week this year will further alienate christians from hollywood and the crap they produce that few will go see. This will further drive more money into films such as the Passion and away from the vile and corrupt studios system.
To: Borges
At first glance, I thought this picture was Forrest Gump.

Showcasing Leo is automatically bad? He's the titular character and was very good. How was Sideways perverted? Characters aren't always admirable.

Y'know how they said Moore's picture couldn't be considered if it ran on free TV? (heh..guess he should have done that..or did he and I missed it..anyway..) Is that rule because they're making darn sure all made-for-TV stuff never weeds its way in, or is it just a cynical ploy to squeeze the most cash out of the moviegoing public before the yearly awards?

So is that like if I write a play and send it to you and you change it around a bit and sell it to Hollywood claiming it is an original by you- that is OK?
Interesting.
If the film makers in Hollywood are so brilliant and creative they would come up with stuff that has never be seen before. And that, for the most part, doesn't happen.
You are then, of course, familiar with the movie The Player.
And BTW- Dark Lady of the Sonnets is a play by George Bernard Shaw. Has he had many movies produced in Hollywood??? I didn't realize he was a Hollywood movie producer at all.
To: Diva Betsy Ross
The Player was a satire showcasing the industry at its worst. You obviously don't like and/or see many movies so why argue about them.

That's OK. All the money comes from private donors. What an incisive comment. Kudos! :o)

Where did I say that? I didn't. I explained without, editorializing, how things work. I am surprised to see that you fall into that category of freeper who avoids questions by putting words into other's statements that were not there.
I'd ask again for you to name the films that SIL ripped off but I suspect it would be a waste of time so I won't.
