Dennis Hopper should be hopping mad, some Hollywood actors said this week.
Hopper, who organized The Creative Coalition's Ball after the Ball Thursday night as part of the activities surrounding President Bush's inauguration, apparently got a surprise phone call from the Presidential Inaugural Committee Wednesday night - telling him not to come to his own party.
"I feel terrible that the White House inaugural committee that invited Dennis decided to disinvite him," "Sopranos" actor Joe Pantoliano told reporters at the event, where the entertainment - aside from mingling with some of Tinseltown's stars - was singer Macy Gray.
Hopper reportedly was not given an explanation for the insult. A call to the PIC had not been returned by press time.
Thursday's ball at the Reagan Building in Washington featured names such as Pantoliano - the group's co-director - along with actor and director Tony Goldwyn, Mario Van Peebles, Joe Piscopo, Matthew Modine and other actors. Various politicos like Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., also attended.
But many were sorry about the absence of Hopper, who was the organizer and chair of the event and who personally wrote letters to and called the evening's headliners to invite them.
"I was very disappointed. I was told he was all of a sudden disinvited by the Inaugural Committee ... but he's with us in spirit," Goldwyn, who played the dark character Carl Bruner in the 1990 smash-hit "Ghost," and more recently co-starred in "The Last Samurai," told reporters on the red carpet Thursday.
Hopper, a Hollywood icon and long-time actor, director and producer who has starred in films such as "Speed," "Easy Rider" and "Apocalypse Now," is a hard-core supporter of Bush, although his wife did partake in fund-raising activities for Sen. John Kerry, Bush's Democratic challenger in the 2004 presidential election.

Peggy Noonan was right. You are seeing the first symptoms of a "theocratic hubris" that could shatter the Republican coalition years before its time. If they drive away the South Park Republicans with this kind of stunt, they are making a big dent in their political futures.
I saw an interview with Hopper several months back and he was as pro-Bush as any of us. He's taken some hits for his political standing, but doesn't really give a sh$t! He's his own man. Having this happen, if true, isn't right. As stated in a earlier post, "President Bush can use as many friendly Hollywood types as possible". Personally, I like the guy.
For sure. . .any Repub should be treated like gold.

No, Joey isn't in those pics (they're excellent pics, BTW--Pauly Walnuts in desert fatigues--LOL!). If you watch the Sopranos, Joey Pants was the guy with the bad hair piece. They whacked him a couple seasons ago. And he was in "The Fugitive" as Tommy Lee Jones sidekick "Cosmo".

Seems to me, you are incredibly wrong in thinking "Hollywood" is, or should be considered, pollitically influential.

What special wisdom do Hollywood actors bring to the table?
Sheesh, they are just people who constantly get cameras and microphones thrust into their faces by the LSM for operating well with a script doing a job that demands they be comfortable working around cameras and microphones.
Am I supposed to think they have any more insight about the world than my next door neighbor?
If he's such a big supporter and most Freepers are only finding out now, he obviously isn't putting the effort into making his voice heard as any of the Hollywood libs.
And the WH doesn't NEED has been celebrities, the last election proved that.
Farah is as nutty as Hopper. Farah's talk radio show is on the outer fringe of something but not the conservative cause.
Hopper took the cure years ago. He's alcohol and drug free. He talked about it on Letterman a couple of years ago.
The next act was Macy Gray. She sang something forgettable, then went into a discussion honoring Che Guevara. I don't recall what she said, but her words were words of admiration and respect. We walked out at this point.
I just did a search on her lyrics, assuming that the talk on Che was an intro to a song, but found nothing.But based on my experience, I think it fair to assume that anyone who loves Che, would not support Bush.
BTW, Dennis Hopper is a hell of an actor, IMHO. Red Rock West being a favorite of mine for his performance.
Absolutely right. Why should we bow to the altar of Hollywood? There's more to this story than what's being told--and why is this news anyway? Who gives a crap where Dennis Hopper goes or doesn't go?
