Europeans upset by Bush election (cry me a river)
BBC News Online ^ | January 19 2005 | Chris Morris

Posted on 01/19/2005 10:06:06 AM PST by knighthawk

Most Europeans surveyed in a BBC World Service poll were not encouraged by the re-election of George W Bush.

In the major countries of western Europe - Germany, France and the UK - clear majorities say his re-election is negative for global security.

Smaller majorities say their overall view of US influence in the world is mainly negative as well.

The Italians are split, mainly negative about Mr Bush, mainly positive about US influence in general.

The only European country to buck the trend completely is Poland, one of the new members of the European Union, where both Mr Bush and the US get positive marks.

Turks unhappy

The main factor behind the generally negative assessment is almost certainly the war in Iraq.

It has always been deeply unpopular with European public opinion, adding to the perception of Mr Bush in Europe as a unilateralist who refuses to listen to his allies.

More bad news for the president comes from Turkey - a traditional ally of the United States and the only Muslim member of Nato.

Eighty two percent of Turks questioned said they were negative about Mr Bush's re-election, the highest number in any country involved in the survey.

It was with such feelings in mind that the Turkish parliament refused to allow American troops to open a second front from Turkish territory during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

It was an unexpected snub, from which US-Turkish relations have yet to recover in full.

Nope. This half-Polish American will tell you that the roots of Polish Jokes go back to the turn of the last century, when the first wave of "mill hunks" settled in the USA. Since most (not all, my family was educated) were "ignorant, illiterate" peasent types, they got the stupid rep from the Irish, German and Anglo Americans who got here earlier.

Those who had family in the camps certainly knew what was going on. I've talked with several Poles who were both internees or "kept silent" during that era, and they told me that it was well known what was going on.

BTW Knighthawk: Never trust a German to comment on a Slav. They are the biggest racists when it comes anyone East of the Elbe.

As I understand it, it was a diplomatic mission. He was there for several months. He's in his 90's now. I don't know what the reason is that the Poles would deny existance of the camps. I can sort of put myself in their place. You can't do anything about it, in fact if you fight against the nazi's you'd end up in those camps. And the Russians were looking for "nazi sympathizers". Self Preservation? Plus, the Nazi's nor the Russians treated the Poles very well. Sort of like slave labor. I personally thought they would be doomed, too, had the war gone in the other direction. Many Poles were very courageous and smuggled people, arms and money in and out of the ghetto right to the end. Have you ever read about the Warsaw uprising? My father talked about it all the time. He thought that it was the most courageous battle ever. The odds against the Jews were overwhelming. They threw the nazi's out of the ghetto for a month and spurred other rebellions throughout Poland. The Jews who did escaped joined with Polish partisians and continued to fight.

I've often wondered that. It's like they're cut off or something. Sticking their fingers in their ears and going "lalalalaalalalala"...

Well, I saw that poll yesterday and the Worlds most populated country, Indian, had something like 60-70% support of Bush and the USA. The BBC went out of their way to say that this was probably skewed becasue the polls were conducted in the Cities. In other words, greedy, wealthy, Republican type Indians were the only ones polled - according to the BBC.

More of US voted for our President and Armed-Forces Commander-In-Chief, George Walker Bush, than there even are Limeys -- or than there are cheese eating surrender monkeys.

And about a dozen of our cities create more wealth than any one of the Euro-peons' Neo-Soviet's squalidly socialistic on-or-off-shore satellite states.

Not one of which, but for our -- for more than a hundred years -- willing sacrifice of our nation's blood and treasure to its defense -- would even exist.

So F&^%^ 'em!

Ungrateful bunch of ingrate bastards!

Why don't all the European whiners spend a bit more of their GDP on DEFENSE

Why? The demographics of Europe look terrible. It'll be the European Caliphate in 50 years or so. Why encourage them to build stronger militaries for the Muslims to take over?

My cheap chocolate ? Oh, yes, you not-so subtly mean chocolate made out of the Ivoirian cocoa ?

See, the world cocoa production is estimated at 1.6 million tons, of which 1 million come from the Ivory Coast.

France imports 117,000 tons of cocoa each year. The USA import 445,000 tons.

So, how do you like YOUR cheap chocolate, Ted ?

This is one of the things that never fail to amaze me : the infinite patience you have with telemarketers in the US.

If I had so many calls of pollsters and telemarketers, I guess sooner or later I would go to the nearest gun store to buy a 30-06 to do some varmint hunting.

Yes but europeans polls are biased because of a "lack" of information delivered by mainstream medias.
More ,these negative opinions must be partialy explained by the complex of "has been" countries who lost their faith and culture/civilization values, and lack of courage...

Wow. We have solders in the Ivory Coast supporting Islamic terrorist like the french do? Why no we don't!

Most civilized countries run their foreign policy on enlightened self interests. But france has forgotten the enlightened part and supports the side of evil simply for financial gain.

No, france will never be called. So sleep easy.
