STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Five

A RESOLUTION urging Congress to withdraw the United States from the United Nations.

Whereas, the United States is the greatest nation in the world and is known for its compassionate people who are generous and kind in caring for the needs of those in other countries and whose resources are used worldwide to alleviate hunger and poverty; and

Whereas, the United States is called upon to defend the rights and freedoms of people in other nations as only we have the capacity to do so as a world superpower; and

Whereas, these responsibilities create an immense burden on the citizens of this country, many of whom are in need and living in poverty themselves; and

Whereas, United States military forces are called upon to bear the brunt of any conflicts that may arise while other nations stay on the sidelines and expect the United States to fight its battles; and

Whereas, the United States provides the largest share of the financial burden for the United Nations, paying hundreds of millions of dollars each year that could be used to address many of the nation's challenges, including homelessness, education, law enforcement, poverty, a strong military, and the war against terrorism; and

Whereas, many of the members of the United Nations are not friendly to the United States and support many things that are detrimental to the country and against its interests, yet expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's problems, even putting the lives of the nation's military forces in danger; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the New Hampshire general court respectfully but firmly requests that the United States Congress:

I. Take measures to dissolve the membership of the United States in the United Nations, thereby freeing the nation from a large financial burden and retaining its sovereignty to decide what is best for the country; and

II. Take the steps that it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world, with full control of its armed forces and destiny; and

That a copy of this resolution, signed by the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate, be forwarded by the house clerk to the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the New Hampshire congressional delegation.

I can't believe it's coming out of a liberal state

Liberal? I wish I was living in such a 'liberal' state.

and that would leave us in the awful geo-political position of having surrendered our UN veto, to boot. We'd be out of the UN, but everyone else would still be in it. Every anti-U.S. and anti-Israeli UN resolution would pass with super-majorities at that point.

Who cares and Who will enforce the un-resolutions???

We would be able to form an effective 21st century coalition that, as stated before, could and should be transparent and fair, as well as lead to the brightest future for the world and the USA

stayin in the un is only prolonging the inevitable, unless we are planning to lose anyways...

"Who cares and Who will enforce the un-resolutions???"

China, France, Germany, Africa, sometimes Russia, and the entire Middle-East would be happy to enforce UN resolutions against Israeli travel abroad, against American businesses abroad, and against Christianity in general.

American isolationism is simply NOT an option; especially as long as we are importing oil.

So merely "leaving" the UN is not a viable option. You've got to come up with a 100% certain method of eliminating the UN prior to the U.S. giving up its UN veto power.

Not after. Before. The UN has to be gone BEFORE the U.S. gives up that veto power.

In 2000 NH went red. In 2004, kerry took the state by less than 10,000 votes.

This is much larger than most people think. NOTE: Hew Hampshire helps shape issues in the primary.

No matter how the vote turns out, this resolution will bring NH attention toward UN scandals. Any conservative who brings up UN scandals during the primaries, and perhaps even right now, praising those legislators bringing this issue up, will be encouraged by this state.

FReegards....

"All that withdrawing the U.S. from the UN would accomplish would be to surrender our UN veto while yielding global diplomacy to the whims of the French and Chinese." That's an interesting point. But what exactly could the UN do to us if we kick them out and save 10s of billions of dollars? I imagine they would threaten economic sanctions. Ah... world wide recession or worse, possibly. The UN is, indeed, selfish enough to cause that. And I suppose they could.

Do we keep feeding this monster? Do we negotiate to save money? Do we even lift a finger when the World Court arrests a US citizen for a 'crime against nature'?

So you are saying that US businesses overseas could be gobbled up. That would crash the stock market. You make good points. Well done. I've been one of the strongest anti-UN hawks around, but you are correct. We must UNDERMINE this evil. We must slash its credibility, expose it's scandals, criticize its wasteful spending, and grind it down to dust. Nonetheless, we've been excellent cats' paws about that process. What's going on in NH is getting peoples' attention. It's not all bad, so long as it does not get out of hand.

For this one sentance alone, the ACLU will urge the courts to find this resolution unconstitutional . . .

On the other hand, I'm not so certain that the US can veto abosoutely everything.
