Travel: Smokers called Animals In A Zoo
Minnesotans Against Smoking Bans ^ | 1-8-05 | Robert Hayes Halfpenny

Posted on 01/08/2005 9:20:21 AM PST by SheLion

I am surprised Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson didn’t refer to the smokers as swine in a pig sty. Isn’t that, after all one of the one of the first images that comes to mind when think of a pen?  Before I am offended by “da mayor” I would have to be offended by the reference to the term smoking pens. In a city and state  that was founded by a group of people so seriously reviled for their own beliefs in years past, you would think they would be among the first to take a “live and let live” attitude about the behavior and choices of others. Clearly the past lessons learned about intolerance by the Mormons must now have been forgotten.

Only 88 airports nationwide is hardly a mandate to make one’s own airport smoke free. Furthermore if these “smoking kiosks” are eliminated it will only cause people to find other places to smoke. Delta Airlines is correct in standing behind the rights of the smokers.  Perhaps they have taken note that incidence of “air rage” only became prevalent AFTER smoking was banned on aircraft. It should also be noted that since the ban, they no longer use fresh air to ventilate the planes; instead, they just run the air through a filtrations system which in an enclosed environment further exacerbates the problem.

Mayor Anderson’s pompous arrogance in stating that the ban will help smokers to “break the habit” is outrageous. It is not his job to be neither a social engineer nor the arbiter of personal choices. I do know however, that as long as Salt Lake City and Utah continue down this Draconian path of heavy handed intolerance, I will avoid their state in very way possible. I will not travel to it, I will not travel thru it, and I will not support my company scheduling a convention there.

BANS ARE BAD! Read it again, BANS ARE BAD! Banning blacks from white facilities---BAD! Banning books---BAD! Banning Beer---Bad! If the people of Utah agree that these bans are bad, then they must also agree that banning smoking is also BAD! I would certainly hope at this juncture they are starting to realize that any action, that would favor a smoking ban of any type, will only create far more harm than good. IN all fairness I should note their may be one kind of good ban. That of course would be banning Mayor Anderson from further political office at the next election.

This one pub dh and I go to has this note from the management...that they permit smoking, it's a pub, and to feel free not to come by if you have a problem with it. They also have other "rules", very humorously put. They do have a separate non-smoking room...but you have to walk thru the main pub to get there. This is unquestionably an issue for the rest/bar management to decide, not the govt. There are non-smoking establishments around here, some who are non-smoking on Sunday only, and the rest with accomodations for both. I don't know why the antis insist that current arrangements aren't good enough.

Seriously, it's legal. I enjoy it. And I don't drink or do drugs. What's left?
Lol!! My dad used to say that. Personally, as an adult, the smoke does make me sick to breathe in. If I walk past someone smoking, I try to hold my breath and get away as fast as I can. Don't one to look like one of those obnoxious people who start making retching noises whenever I even see someone smoking (I know a guy who does that. he might have someone behind him smoking and never react, but if he turns around and sees them... )

Stereotyping all smokers is sad. Stereotyping any group is sad.

Check out DU where all Republicans are low class, beer drinking, gun toting, racist, trailer trash. You'd feel right at home.

Some smokers are slobs, most aren't----just like the rest of the population.

I think thats the anti smokers problem. They can't stand to see people enjoy themselves because they are miserable, they want everyone else to be, too. I think they think they have put restrictions of not smoking on themselves so we should, too.

The tobacco I have now says it has no additives. I really like Drum, but it costs more. The menthol loose tobacco I bought made the best menthols I had ever tasted.

~whew! I never knew menthol could taste so good. LOL!

Salem's had a strong menthol, but there is something different about the menthol loose tobacco.

They sell menthol tobacco? I didn't know that, and that's one reason why I hadn't started to roll my own...regular ones taste like dirt to me.

So while you may not like the manner in which some smokers posting anonymously on an internet forum express themselves.....please note that in real life.......your side is far from the virtuous protectors of public health they claim to be.

and BTW - the lobbyist that threatened the Senator's re-election........being paid by the Lung Association. I was just helping out some friends that owned bars, on my own time and my own dime.

It always helps big time to have someone with experience in here.  People such as Polybius come off as someone who works in one of those Institutes.  Like he knows exactly what he is talking about, and the rest in here might take him at his word.

But you just laid it out front, Gabz.  The truth!  Thank you!

Ok you caught me. But I do know from spending alot of time at DU that they hate smoking and are all for banning cigarettes "for our own good" an exact quote from a poster over there. I also know they are the ones who sit around and wish for the death of the president and try to think up ways to do it without detection. Don't ask me to post a link. I haven't mastered that yet. But if you put the two together, I believe its safe to say liberals are far more likely to be against smoking and more likely to make a political statement by assassinating someone. Go read DU awhile and then use some common sense.

At the local smoke shop or on the net. I've used www.stuffyourown.com and Randy's Tobacco Shop (also on the net). So far I have preferred the tobacco from the internet sources as far as quality and price, but that's subjective of course.

"Personally, as an adult, the smoke does make me sick to breathe in."

I have read most of the smoking threads so I know the posters who smoke fairly well.
We don't smoke to make you miserable. We smoke for our enjoyment.
If it would make you sick to smoke in your presence, all it would take is informing us that it makes you sick.
I'd bet there is not one smoker here who would light up under those circumstances.
