1010 WINS has learned that "Law and Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at the age of 69. His manager, Robert Malcolm confirmed Orbach's death this morning.
Tony Award winner Jerry Orbach (Promises, Promises) earned a reputation as the quintessential New Yorker through his work in such films as Prince of the City and Crimes and Misdemeanors, as well as for his roles in Broadways 42nd Street and on NBCs Law & Order. Orbach has been honored with the Crystal Apple Award from the New York City Mayors Office of Film, Television and Broadcasting for his contribution to the arts, and was presented with a lifetime achievement award from the Friars Club of New York.

Yeah, I really only liked the first prosecutor they had...
The new ones all seemed boring and political, probably not Orbach's fault. On the early ones, many of the characters were really kinda aggressive and reactionary at times.
Orbach was certainly the best-loved character in the original Law and Order TV series. He was also famous for his voice acting role as Lumiere in the animated feature Beauty and the Beast.
He will be sorely missed.
Oh how sad. He was my favorite! I love that show!
I am so sorry to hear this. He WAS Law & Order. I guess this might explain his departure this past season.
Last season is when he left the show. They replaced him with Dennis Farina. Not nearly as great as him.
Oh wow.
Rest in Peace. Prayers for his family.
Orbach was #3.

He left at the end of the spring or on the first show of the fall season 2004. Last Wednesday they had the rerun of the show where he left, I think.
They wrote him out last year. Dennis Farina took over for him.
He was written out last year, and replaced with Dennis Farina. Supposedly he was going to be working on a new spin-off. I could not understand the decision at the time, since the L&O brand is already on the ropes. Maybe the producers knew what was going on...
RIP.
Actually since they added (former Senator) Fred Dalton Thompson, the shows been more balanced politically speaking.
Orbach didn't play a regular until the third season. His first role on the series wasn't even as a cop.
After 16 years.... its gotten long in the tooth. Great show though.
Never watched the show, didn't know who he was until I saw the picture. RIP Jerry.
He goes way back. Broadway Musical "Promises,Promises" in the '60s.
Law and Order has since went in the crapper, but when Orbach was in the show it was riveting, the way he'd wisecrack and one-liners to criminals.
I think he played a defense attorney. Watch the first season and you'll notice a few of the guest stars later got recurring roles.
#4 if you count Susan Sontag.
Deaths always come in three's.
Reggie, Jerry, and...who's next?
