We live on a living planet. It is alive and changing sometimes violently.

A global warming report? Or a real concern report?

Title should read ... New York
City ... the actual state extends all the way up to Canada.
Few are aware that a major geological fault line runs from the Ramapo Valley right through Manhattan. Has NYC prepared for an earthquake, as well?

I saw a special about the island I think it was Discovery channel, about a year ago.
It's not a matter of if, it's a question of when.

'
I doubt it. Given the construction materials used since colonial days, it would be devastating. I can't imagine an earthquake plan that would work.

The former northeastern half of the island of Maui apparently slid into the deep ocean. Slide deposits have been mapped underwater there.
Some scientists have expressed concern that the rift on the big island of Hawaii, might represent the beginning of a similar process. If it ever happens (unlikely in our lifetime), the west coast of North and South America will be affected.

Well, an NYC tidal wave would bring about a significant reduction in that urine smell.

I grew up in upstate NY. I seem to remember that the entire Hudson river vally is a fault line, and that everything east of there is on a subplate type structure. And that the main fault extends down into the Atlantic west of Manhatten.

I'm aware of the fault line.
This will be interesting to note on tremors.

There was a small eatrhquake through a fault line here a few years back. It was the oddest feeling. There was a slight sound and a small vibration, which you could feel coming up through your feet.

That's the one with our name on it.

There was a small eatrhquake through a fault line here a few years back. It was the oddest feeling. There was a slight sound and a small vibration, which you could feel coming up through your feet. Back in '84, I experienced one, while living on LI. It was like everything we have ever read on this topic ... the rattling of patio doors, the sound of a 'train' running past the house; quite eerie.
BTW, Con Edison had originally planned to build its plant in lower Manhattan. They dug down to bedrock and were in the final planning stages, when an engineer recalled some old maps with fault lines. They dug down another 100' to a fault cavern, then proceeded to close up the excavation, build a children's playground and move the plant across the East River to Queens.
Isn't there a Nuclear Plant in the Ramapo Valley?
