Jesse Jackson: Bush Would Have Left Jesus Homeless

President Bush has implemented economic policies that resemble those of the Roman Empire, which forced the baby Jesus into homelessness on the night of his birth, former civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson said in a pre-Christmas rant late Thursday.

"In the last [Bush] budget, we cut housing again, and that was Jesus' dilemma. In Bethlehem, his family ended up homeless," Jackson told MSNBC's Campbell Brown.

"Rome was a wealthy country that left Jesus and Mary and Joseph, in a sense, homeless," he complained. "He was born an at-risk baby."

The GOP bashing Democrat said that while Bush's reelection campaign had been successful in "marketing the language of religious values," the Bush White House isn't practicing what it preaches.

Jackson charged that under Bush's policies, the U.S. "appears to be indifferent toward the poor as we seek tax cuts and no-bid contracts for the wealthy; as we engage in wars of choice - driving our nation into isolation."

"Today we are celebrating the wealthy and war, not the poor and peace," he contended, while urging the Bush administration to "restore the Lyndon Baines Johnson vision where we wipe out poverty - not wipe out the poor."

When He was twelve He did go to the Temple but that would have been in Jerusalem.

Jesus was not homeless. There might not been a room in the inn, but His parents lived in Nazareth. They were traveling because an imperial government demanded they travel as a prelude to increased taxation.

No, It is not mentioned anywheres. I mean It was not called that then, but the bible does not have any mention of a party or anything like they do at these things.

Yea, they were in Jerusalem because it was the Feast of the Tabernacles and Joseph and Mary went every year. Jesus went there are put all the teachers to shame LOLOL.

Jesus had his (what is today called a Bar Mitzvah) at the age of 12 because he was considered to be illegitimate.

Whoa there! Getting knocked up after the betrothal but before the wedding was scandalous (it cast aspirations on the bride and groom's ability to control themselves) but in no way did it make the child illegitimate. They were already legally bound.

This was inferred from various biblical references and generally accepted in the church that I grew up attending (United Methodist).

Thank you, but now my curiosity is peaked. I've got to find out for sure. God forgives us our mistakes made in ignorance, and truly, he would forgive us anything that we asked of him. Still, I would rather not misrepresent his word; so I must find out.
