The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Recoveries made from the slain terrorists included two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 269 rounds of ammunition and one grenade.

In another incident, SF personnel shot dead the ‘district launching chief’ of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Abu Assadullah alias Janbaaz, in an encounter at Batkote village in Kupwara district.

Meanwhile, the troops neutralised a terrorist hideout at Bahrama Gala in the Surankote area of Poonch district and recovered two wireless sets, four grenades of Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), one AK magazine, 42 rounds of ammunition, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 22 pencil cells, one injection syringe and a large quantity of medicines and eatables. Separately, in two search operations at Dhar Galoon and Barila in the same district, SFs recovered one AK rifle, four magazines, 248 rounds, two RPG bombs, 43 Pika ammunition, five Chinese grenades, five UBGL grenades, 51 mm HE and two hand grenades. However, no arrests were made during these raids.

This is considered a "large scale incident" and we had warning there would be more dead earlier this evening.

Do you find it odd that it's not getting national coverage?

It's been on FNC for a 10 second update twice that I've seen, but I've mostly had local channels on.

The cable shows would rather talk about controversial, political things...it increases ratings. Besides, those people in the blue states don't care about those of us in South Carolina. LOL

Next update: 8:00 a.m. at the earliest.

re: :...shouldn't they have done this by now?"

Read between the lines... The operative phrases are "high impact events" and "long term recovery".

This seems to concede the possibility of a UMCE [ultra-mass casualty event] that could affect the entire country for some time to come. Obvious question would, of course, be "Why now?"

I am amazed that it's not a bigger story on the news - I actually read about the train/chem incident here on FR - and I hadn't heard another word about it all day till I was just in my car and heard an update on the car radio (ABCnews) and they said there were 8 dead...and it's still a terrible situation.

Ahh, excellent points, thank you. Also, your question of "why now" is valid but troubling.

I know. When I got home from work I figured Fox News would be covering it and there would be an update. Couldn't find anything so I searched the wire services and read that 8 people died. I was shocked that I hadn't heard it anywhere. FR is the only source besides the local SC stations.

"Chemical Freight Trains Collide in S.C."
Thursday, January 06, 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "GRANITEVILLE, S.C.  — A freight train carrying chlorine gas (search) struck a parked train early Thursday, killing eight people and injuring at least 200 others, nearly all of them sickened by a toxic cloud that persisted over this small textile town at nightfall.

Authorities ordered all 5,400 people within a mile of the crash to evacuate in the afternoon because chlorine was continuing to leak and the gas was settling near the ground as temperatures dropped. They were unsure when the gas leak might be sealed."

With our business, I have been there several times. I noticed the tremendous infrastructure, massive highways, bridges, etc., with very few people traveling on them. (the cities are another story) I asked our driver why this was so. His comment, "to move the military" I found that rather chilling.

That is exactly the rationale for the interstate system in the United States. It is to move military assets. There is a requirement for stretches of perfectly straight road to act as impromptu landing surfaces for aircraft.

Better late than never? This is a prime example of bureaucracy taking its time to get an urgent job completed.
