In keeping with the Spirit of the Season, why not keep your focus and questions not about the past but the future?

It would provide a better example for your young group of people.

Have fun. (Is a WH tour really the right forum to ask your questions? Your tour guide is just a civil servant, not a partisan.)

The advice you asked for: Don't make an ass out of yourself by asking dumb "pointed" questions of a low-level, poorly-informed tour guide.

There are dozens of books and articles written about that sad period in our history, so do what an eighth grader would be expected to do -- look it up.......

My advice is .... Don't put the tour guide on the spot...It's supposed to be fun and exciting for the kids...Better to just enjoy it...But if you see the desk don't ask..."Is that the Monica desk?" AKA the "Get Lucky "desk....

I agree...Brownies are TOO YOUNG to be witness to your hostile questions. There is a time and place for everything. Think of the kids...not yourself. They deserve a warm and inspiring memory...not your rant. Adults know what happened there. Think of what the girls will carry away...not your own satisfaction.

I agree with what most of the people here have said. You're going on a tour with young girls. They're learning. They lesson they take away doesn't need to be, "Gee, the country is full of partisans who hate each other." There will be time enough for them to learn that when they're older.

I cannot believe that they still allow those tours. I had one back in the 1980s myself.

No cameras are allowed to be used, so just enjoy the three room tour. I still remember it vividly, but I went through in June, and so no Christmas decorations.

I recall noticing that the workers there seemed to be regular people, while those of us in the tour were completely enchanted by the experience.

Too bad for us the Reagans were not in on that particular day.

I do not intend to be a smart aleck about this, but I would wonder a few things about your intentions here. Such as:

What would be the purpose of your questions regarding this or what do you hope to accomplish? Would questions of this type not serve to take away from the experience of the girls? You are there for them, correct?

Also, you realize you will be putting the person you direct the questions to on the spot.

I think that President Bush's intentions were to take the high road in this matter, by down playing it, as much as possible. This was the classy thing of him to do and an approach I would not have taken.

I would vote to let the girls enjoy the experience w/o any possible negativity coming up, as could happen with your questions.

I don't think it is appropriate to ask a tour guide questions of that topic in front of little girls- who will have no idea what you are talking about. Let them be in awe and and have respect for the dignity of the White House.

If I were a parent of one of those girls and I found out you did something like that you would be in hot water with me.
