Someone who is diagnosed schizophrenic should never be unsupervised for a single minute. When relatives aren't willing or available to take on the responsibility, the patients should be kept in a secure hospital, for their won and everyone else's good.

"Sorry, I have no patience for this lawsuit nonsense!"

Nor do I have any patience for this suicide stuff. The girl wanted to die, the world will not be worse off without her. I'm sad for her family, but being rich mourners will not make them better off either.

I wish I could catch verb conjugation errors like you do. Yes, I write as if English were my second language but my Spanish is even worse.

if someone hangs themself, can the parents sue the hardware store where the rope was bought?

sheesh, sorry, but I have decided that people who really want to kill themselves will find a way. They did it before Wal-Mart, and they'll do it long after.

"The tragedies that families face when people are killed is terrible.

It's a pet peeve of mine. I've seen letters to newspapers written by school teachers that are incorrect. Just match the subject of the sentence "tragedies" which is plural, to the verb form "are". Sorry to be so pedantic. Wish I could speak Spanish.

Having all of you records tied to a background check would be the final nail in our coffins.

If anybody is liable for her death it's the mother who allowed her to go out shopping for a shotgun by herself. For Walmart to be held accountable they would have to be able to read peoples minds or have access to their medical history. The mother knew about her daughters illness, not Walmart.

This is just as insane as blaming heavy metal for suicides.
Next thing you know we'll be polygraphed while filling out our applications so we can't lie on them.

>>`Why do you want this?'>>

1. Where do we authorize WalMart to cross-check the gun purchase with known consumers of psychotic drugs?

2. If she didn't buy the shotgun (now for sale used, only been fired once!!!), she would have crashed a car, jumped off a building, stepped in front of a bus, slit her wrists, slept with 500 men at an orgy in her honor, or some other dumb thing to commit suicide.

If guns are banned, I guess we'll have to go back to using big rocks to kill ourselves.

Yes, after all, browsing FR is a hate crime in itself, so loathsome that no actual trial is required.

Anyone notice how slow FR has sometimes been of late in adding posts? See my last one -- I waited three minutes, and not seeing it, posted it again, only to have them both show up. Weird.

If Wal-Mart had denied the sale of the gun based on something not in the law the screams of "racism" would have been to loud to bear...

Hell, I'm happy when a Wal-Mart clerk knows where the hell the dog food is this week.

Exactly what I was thinking! Most of the time, I feel like I know the store better than the majority of the employees!

What they need is a Lowe's-esque training program. Now those people know where crap is!

Agreed on the usage/grammar errors. I often wonder if the professional editors of the world attended the same schools as I. I find so many mistakes in newspapers, magazines, and internet articles that I begin to believe I could make a pretty decent living just going behind the editors already in place in an effort to correct the errors they missed.

For example, check out post 25 on this thread.

"If someone hangs themself..."

1. "Themself" is not a word.

2. When using the reflexive pronoun, it must agree with the subject.

"If someone hangs himself..." (or herself)

Am I too picky? This drives me nuts!
